Because it's a fricking Jeep. Do you not understand comparisons or something? There are other sports cars that cost less than an 86 while also being faster. That's not the fricking point. The point is your "sports car" can't beat a 6000lb object around a track.

That's a rental car getting marginally beat by a little 4000lb crossover. It's not a 2800lb sports car getting it's shit pushed in by a 6000lb Jeep. There's a difference.

The BMW is a direct competitor to the Jeep which is why you're seething while the GR86 might be closer to a Corolla

            >The BMW is a direct competitor to the Jeep
It's not. It's a lightweight compact crossover. The Jeep is a full sized SUV that can still tow a lot. Both are for soccer moms.

They're both performance SUVs and cost nearly the same, while the 86 costs over half as much and weighs nearly 2000lbs less as a sport compact.

See why your comparo is fricking stupid? Trackhawks and M SUVs are faster than a lot of actual performance cars but guess what? No one actually tracks them LOL. They're heavy, expensive to run, expensive to buy, heat up quickly, and they're too top heavy (rollover risk).

NC miata with 215whp would be as fast in a straight. That's a 2.5 swap with a tune and cam, I can build it for 10-12k. Will dumpster a 3200lb car outside of a straight line regardless of what you do with it

Proving my point (you've never done a swap)

    Further, a Neon SRT-4 has:
    >mahle aluminum pistons
    >forged con-rods
    >a turbo
    >inconel exhaust valves

So... the wikipedia numbers do not do it justice. It was meant to be turnt up from the factory.

Now go ahead and find me a single good brand new 2 literish turbo 4 that comes with nice parts like that. I dare you. End of an era

The EA888 engine in the last few gens of GTI could be tuned to 400+ whp without touching any internals. An off the shelf tune without touching a thing will net you ~60hp

          Bullshit.
At least 50% of the time (sorry, no empirical data), people will notice you after a few minutes and start driving more aggressively.
Chalk it up to an innate competitiveness that gets triggered.

How would I notice them after several minutes if they "smoked" me? Repetitively slowing down in front of me in an attempt to get me to pass, and then accelerating to block me, isn't "racing".

this has been my experience too. I drive an underpowered shitbox, but it's a bit loud and I know all the light timing down the main roads so I have a habit of driving somewhat aggressively to make them. I don't give a frick about the randos, and I don't think I've ever instigated a race challenge in the city. I always get people (who also appear to be trying to make lights, or perhaps are just generally c**tish drivers) that'll keep pace with me and then start trying to do dumb shit next to me or goad me into a race. homie I didn't even see you and I don't care, I'm just trying to make lights and enjoy myself a little. not everything is about you

    >NA 2.4 vs turbo 2.4
Geez, I wonder which will be faster?
The SRT4 was designed to be a cheap drag car. You could get a dealer installed boost package that upped the power to 320 HP with an intercooler sprayer. But at the end of the day it was still an econobox Neon. You don't see even regular Neons around anymore.

Why are you discounting how well it handled? Do you forget Neons dominated in SCCA racing and that was even before the SRT-4. What do you think the ACR package was for? moronic zoomer.

It would of cost 33k usd msrp adjusted inflation from 2004 to 2024 without all to that regulations considered that has been added on today. Assuming that msrp gr86 being 29 grand for the base model, the neon would be way too expensive with the regulations added.

86's are closer to $40k OTD for a base model once Subaru has their way with you. It's pretty easy to spend over $30k on a Civic in 2024 so $33k is pretty impressive for something with that much performance.

The closest modern equivalent to the Neon SRT4 is unironically the Elantra N

Mind you SRT4s had no mufflers. The main regulation it would fail would be sound and crash safety. Those old neons were literal tin cans and it would need another 300lbs in body structure and bullshit to pass....which leaves it at close to the weight of a Elantra N.

This site just has a hateboner for the 86s since 2013 when they first came out. It's actually kind of amazing how much DA fricking hates them, the rest of the Internet stopped giving a shit. It's a super vocal autistic minority.

Subaru doesn't mark vehicles up though. MSRP or they pull the allotment and fine the dealer. It's Toyota that has no problem marking up Rav4s let alone GR86s.

I did not include msrp+regulations prices because I am not an expert on much regulations would factor in to a car like the neon today. But msrp with regulations is already bad enough to not be worth 0.3 seconds faster than a gr86. Even with factoring in

's otd, it would be around the high 45k at most at this point with compliance of regulation.
