New cars have way better interiors. The problem now is that automakers have perfected implementing obsolescence
Growth is threatened by a used market flooded with well made goods that function forever.

Okay, how many Citations do you still see, anon? How many Corsicas and Berettas? How many Luminas? How many Cutlass Cieras and Cutlass Supremes? How many fricking Achievas and Skylarks? Yeah, that's what I thought.

And a big reason there's plenty of squarebodies still on the road is because they made so fricking many of them over those 15 years that there were still loads left when the enthusiast survivorship bias kicked in.

BECAME one, anon. They weren't enthusiast vehicles back in 1973 but they were by 1993. It got aftermarket appreciation that the econoboxes never did.

            >the vehicle that people became devoted to survived
            >the ones nobody cared about died off quickly

If you dump enough money into it you can keep even any car on the road. That doesn't mean it wasn't intended to be replaced in under 5 years.

            Anonymous

They survived because it had value thanks to reliability. That’s why they’re more square bodies on the road and no f150’s or neons. I dumped a zillion loads in ur mom btw

Do you think there are no classic Ford trucks on the road? The difference is that there were three fricking different generations of Ford truck in the Square Body's 15 year run so it seems like there's less of them.

            Anonymous

Squarebodies were 73-91, but you're also wrong just based on the fact that there are more squares on the road than Ford trucks of all 3 generations combined. There's better support for every inch of the C/K/R/V series than there is any Ford truck platform.

Gee, wonder why it was popular? More reliable, better performing, tried and true engine platform, not full of moronic designs like twin i-beam suspensions? Ford gassers are shit anyways, the only thing they've done decent is diesel, but dodge showed them both up there.

why are regular, stock cars so weak?
why do people tolerate such pathetic torque figures and shit gearing?
any car/truck ive ever driven, engines ranging from like 2L to 7L (curb weight from idk 3000 to ~8000 lbs), sags and bogs the frick down with only a few hundred pounds of sprung weight

have any nucars solved this problem with their variable timing and variable intake runners and 10 speed trannies and all that shit?
do you really still need to buy a diesel 3/4 ton just to get reasonable torque?

    >Are new cars really that shit or am I just nostalgic?
Both. Touch screens, bloat, piano black, poor visibility, and cramped engine bays definitely suck. I'm 35 and I've never enjoyed anything newer than a 2011, and it was one of my least favorite cars despite having the best stock performance. Luckily I can afford to maintain and fix up several old cars and it's easy to daily a 35 year old car when you have 4 more cars in backup. Unfortunately old cars suck more every year too. Aftermarket replacements have dropped precipitously in quality and OEM is more expensive than ever and also dropping in quality. Old cars aren't available in the junkyard for cheap parts and body panels anymore either. I go to junkyards and the oldest cars are from the 90s now.

Older cars look good, but realizing that they're just fancy sheet metal boxes on top of an expensive lawnmower dulls the shine a bit

Objectively new cars are better, they're more efficient, safer, have more features ECT. The caveat is they are not meant to last. I would trust a 2000 Silverado to make it to 300k miles where a 2020 Silverado I have my doubts.
