You're trying to argue subjective opinion vs. the free market.

People choose McDonalds/Toyota because it is the best option for them. You can't discredit that without moving goalposts.

It definitely feels like they’re going through an 00s Sony phase where they’re leaning too hard on their brand name and past rep versus actual product quality.

The stuff they make that’s time-tested like their hybrid systems with NA engines is still solid, but I wouldn’t want to be an early adopter of anything truly new from them right now as evidenced by the recent TTV6 debacle.

Yes and no. Toyota is becoming the biggest and most profitable manufacturer in auto, and because of that quality is going to take a decline as they start releasing cars in segments they didn't before. Toyota will however be better quality than when VW was the biggest

My old work had two Tacomas. One a 2014, one a 2017. Nothing ever broke on the '14, even through 8 hours of driving and idling (I literally never turned it off when I was parked somewhere) and very lax maintenance. The '17 had shit break from normal use within the warranty period.

Personally, I think Toyota (at least for the US consumer market, is resting on their laurels. They're also under pressure to constantly innovate and release new, barely tested shit like every other manufacturer. Today's Toyota is not the Toyota of yesteryear. It's still head and shoulders above most, but not the same stubbornly unkillable Japanese machine.

this happens every time Toyota is forced to modernize.
The first few years of their engines and transmissions are garbage.
But then once they figure that out they'll have a reliable combination for the next 10 years until they're forced to make whatever 25 speed automatic in 2035.
    to gain 0.001% MPG

What is affecting Toyota is affecting all the other manufacturers too.
    >epa regulations
    >crash requirements
    >protectionism regulations
This greatly diminishes the quality of all cars, including Toyota. So comparing today's Toyota to a Toyota of 10 years ago the quality is not the same. But that is the same with all manufacturers.
