What makes people dismiss cool and fast cars as cars for minorities? Is this shitbox driver tears or something else?

Chevys and Dodges are far cooler than Ford.
I think this is one of those things where those on the low and high end of the IQ spectrum agree that Challengers are sick as frick, and the middle IQ white redditor types think theyre bad.

Even as a WN, I have to say that blacks have on average better taste in cars than the average white person. Dodges, BMWs, Infinitis all look and drive amazing. No clue why dumb people are relegating these brands to black people

The problem is that Black folk, while they may have good taste, also enjoy stealing
If you have something a Black person wants, he wont hesitate to steal it from you

        it's this
the challenger is a car with a timeless, world-recognized shape and is inexpensive and infinitely customizable, it's not actually marketed toward any particular group but minority groups love it because it looks like the square body american cars they or their parents grew up in while driving like the european cars they aspired to own back then, and it's common and accessible.
for white people it's similar but we link the overall state of society to how cars look and so the challenger is more of a general nostalgic time machine, and whites who don't have the point of reference won't "get" what makes the car so special. they just see it as a lame retro styled, overweight slab of car much like the pt cruiser.
people who "get" cars like it and people who follow the rule of cool like it, only midwit wikipedia browsers seem to have terrible things to say.

        Anonymous

a car can be cool from a distance but you may not want to own that model yourself for various reasons.
        the challenger is
        > fast
        > reasonably reliable
        > good looking
        > comfortable for 4 passengers
        > nice amount of trunk space
        > feature laden
        the challenger is also
        > a boat, it handles well enough for what it is but gets mogged by the mustang and camaro
        > old as dirt in 2024, its been made nearly unchanged since 2018
        > because its the same car from 6 years ago, theres almost no reason to buy new, except:
        > owned primarily by minorities and subhumans because Chrysler Capital will finance anyone with a pulse. said subhumans will almost always beat the piss out of them, meaning the screaming deal you got on a 32k mile 392 is a ticking time bomb
        > the subhumans that cant afford these themselves will simply steal them, beat the piss out of them, and abandon them in an alley
        > preventative theft measures like a razor or fuel pump killswitch dont stop someone with a flatbed from just rolling it away
        > for these reasons insurance on them is much higher than camaros/mustangs in my area

cool car, not worth the effort of owning one.

What does literally anything in the second part of your post have to do with the car being cool or not other than the handling, tons of cars are beat to shit on the secondary market, just fix them or look for a better example

The Corvette is one of the few cars where a few thousand in bolt-ons create the boomer-killer. The insurance rates are low due to that as well. Der Boomer spends his whole life accruing easy wealth and the moment he feathers the throttle on a high output car, his life flashes before his eyes as his retirement savings and investments instantly vaporize in his mind. They drive them slow and safe as a result.

            Anonymous

Hardly modified, the rest of the car is stock. You also have to remember that the 340s and 383s from the later years could make the same if not more power, so these still mog.

            Anonymous

...And? It's a modded engine in a completely different car class. This isn't a mog.

            Anonymous

Whoa dude it's almost like the stock block I had in it was cracked when I tried to rebuild it and I couldn't find a 273 Commando block to replace it, so I decided I'd get the first regular 273 or 318 I could find and build it to Commando spec... So the first one I found for a good price that wasn't cracked was a 318 previously serviced to .040 so a reboring to .060 brought up the displacement slightly, but then otherwise having it setup exactly the same as the original engine so far during dyno runs is showing a healthy 401 horsepower.
            >modified
Yeah I basically just replaced the block with a block with the exact same stroke but slightly higher bore because my old block was cracked and I couldn't find one. "Modified" my ass.

It's fine to say that you like your car more than modern cars or whatever, but you have to understand that a modified engine in a purposefully-lighter car on a purposefully-lighter chassis that is not considered to be the same class of car as your completely stock and unmodified comparison is a very stupid comparison.

            True.
Only big difference is the meat, 275 is default in the SRT and it helps a lot getting out of the hole.
Scat Packs needed the performance package. Widebodies already come with massive 305s.

Even just looking this up on Challenger forums and people with bone stock Pentastar Challengers can't break mid 6s in 0-60 times, the guys that can have heavily modified cars usually with forced induction making about 125hp more.
            >(Source 1: https://www.chargerforumz.com/threads/3-6l-pentastar-v6-0-60-times.170403/ )

So there is no way that a fricking Rentastar chally is doing that claimed time without heavy modifications and drag tires.

Meanwhile a stock 340 4-speed Barracuda from 1968-1969 will do a standing 0-60 time of

Which, despite my engine being a 318 built to the same rough specs as the 273 HiPo it replaced had nearly identical dyno specs to a 340 on the dyno after automatically blueprinting it then put it a stock car on stock tires could reproduce the results, with best time of 5.7 at the strip even with granny shifts.

Man I do not trust Doge's 0-60 times. Straight cap fr fr

I took a Challenger R/T 5.7 and did 0-60 pulls at zero elevation in Death Valley, was getting like mid 5-second range. Maybe if you had perfect drag strip at exactly zero elevation, with superglue all over the fricking tires and road.

Manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to advertise unrealistic 0-60's that aren't achievable without a multi-gorillion dollar Guinness World Records prep setup. They should only list 0-60 averaged on generic street conditions

            >Manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to advertise unrealistic 0-60's
All the times match Car & Driver and other similar reviewers. The trick is almost all reviews don't add in the 1' rollout time. Car & driver is actually nice enough to mention this if you look closely so (they say 0.3 seconds), so add that to any time you see on the 0-60 website and it'll be more realistic.

Some people couldn't care less about stereotypes and just want to enjoy something nice.

My criteria to get a new car was:
-something 2 door (eliminates most things)
    -manual (eliminates even more things)
-something good for road trip (very few cars left here already because I wanted real trunk space)
-something I can still take my kids and wife in (nothing left but the Chally at this point)

i love how the chally has its own little niche of people who want a reliable sports car but need it to do normal car stuff, for which you'd have to spend twice, maybe three times as much on a comparable european or japanese car that doesn't look anywhere near as cool as the challenger

        >i love how the chally has its own little niche of people who want a reliable sports car but need it to do normal car stuff
What people don't realize is that this is literally what muscle cars are. They're cars made for a middle class/family lifestyle that are intended to have performance characteristics. I had put together an entire post a while back arguing this point. The entire reason behind their existence was to cater to a growing group of people who had the money to splurge on a high-performance car but didn't have the money to buy a *dedicated* high-performance car. The result was thus a market of cars that emerged that catered towards a desire for performance but also a desire for middle-class utility, hence the muscle car.

A dedicated sports car doesn't let you pick up your friends or your kids due to lack of back seats. A dedicated sports car doesn't let you pick up groceries or carry luggage due to a lack of trunk space. Meanwhile, your average family coupe or sedan didn't have the ability to effectively accelerate or hit high speeds on the freeway like a sports car could. Muscle cars married these two ideas in larger packages that required larger motors for the sake of performance and affordability.

Muscle cars are and were always intended to be sports cars large enough to have middle-class social and familial utility. They were even advertised and referred to as "sports cars" in the 60's and 70's (pic related). The term "muscle car" only caught on later.

you also forgot to mention that insurance is ridiculously high for them as well becaus eof the theft, and if the car is stolen is will be chopped and you wont find it ever again. just get a Mustang or a Camaro, especially since chrysler is completely sunsetting the charger/challengers in order to go with the newer charger and wont support the old models

        >chrysler is completely sunsetting the charger/challengers in order to go with the newer charger and wont support the old models
Is this really going to matter anytime soon? The aftermarket scene for current Chargers/Challengers is massive and the cars are still obscenely popular and I can't fathom that aftermarket ending any time soon considering that there are muscle cars from the 60's that still have massive aftermarkets.
