Why do liberals seemingly hate American cars? Are American cars discriminatory and racist? Liberal publications like Consumer Reports also have a heavily anti-American bias and I'm curious to the reasons why behind this vehicular trend.

the big 3 don't make any small economy city cars that are worth buying. they've tried and failed. honda left them with their shoes untied in the 80's and 90's, hyundai/kia is taking over with the Soul, Elantra, Sonata, etc. Nissan still has strong Sentra and Versa presence.
Meanwhile, the big 3 haven't been able to maintain a nameplate for an economy car besides Chevy and the Malibu, and they're doing away with that. Gone are the days of cars like the Citation, Horizon, Pinto, etc. There's no brand recognition, meanwhile the Honda Civic is still the Honda Civic, since the early 70's

      >Meanwhile, the big 3 haven't been able to maintain a nameplate for an economy car
The American car industry has always had a focus on cars with large displacement engines. This itself isn't a problem but when you look at the Oil Crisis combined with liberal policies like punishing CAFE standards along with the Recession it really crippled the American automotive industry. Cheap Asian shitboxes with tiny engines were able to thrive in such an environment.
We're seeing the same threat with liberal policies that are inherently self-defeating for America and work against America while presenting opportunity for Asian companies that can flood the American market with cheap Asian shitboxes from China this time around.

How is it the policies fault if a company can't make a competitive vehicle? It's not a regional tariff, if the japs can make cars that compete, nothing is stopping the big 3 from making cars that compete.

Not every market is the same and the conditions in every country's market is vastly different. America is a wealthy country with a high standard of living. Americans expect higher wages to match the high purchasing power Americans have. Not to mention America was one of the first nations to push heavily for worker's rights. Tom isn't going to pick oranges for $5/hr or fix roofs under the sweltering sun for paltry sums. But Paco would gladly do that work for less.

This is how Pajeets came to dominate coding and customer services jobs. It's not that American industry is inferior but we can't compete labor cost wise with Asian countries with massive populations that drive the cost of labor way down.

Not a liberal, but there’s like 5 American vehicles made in the last 15 years that aren’t BOF trucks/SUVs that haven’t been unreliable shitheaps as a basic commuter. Why take the risk if the nearest Nip manufacturer dealership is right down the street?

American automakers’ raison d’etre in the present day is to put out V8s with amazing engine notes that are either fun to drive or else tow heavy loads. If the car doesn’t have one, why not just buy a Toyota instead when they have the better historical track record?

Americans don't do great on reliability, that goes to the japs.
Americans don't do great on luxury, that goes to the germans.
Americans do great on big engines and big trucks and big SUVs. So this market is still dominated by the Americans, like Surubans, Tahoes, Yukons, Escalades, trucks, etc.

        >Americans don't do great on reliability, that goes to the japs.
Not true. American car philosophy has always centered around simple, understessed naturally aspirated large displacement engines. Japs have relied on overstressed high revving boosted tiny engines which isn't a good recipe for reliability. And don't get started on the engineering mess that is the German automobile. Mercedes had a run of reliable cars but that was decades ago.
        >Americans don't do great on luxury, that goes to the germans.
Lol no. American has always been the land of excess and prosperity. This is something Euros envied. The Roaring American Twenties led to grandiose cars. The 50s American Golden Age brought large cars with massive engines. Muscle cars originated in America and Cadillac became a word synonymous to describe top-of-the-line things. Euros had tiny shitboxes with tiny engines.

The revolutionary and liberty-loving spirit is alive in the conservative parts of the country, not in the birthplace of the American revolution ironically enough.

Cities like Boston and Philadelphia back then had smaller populations than a typical medium sized town does now. The NYC metro area alone has a larger population today than the entire pre-revolution 13 colonies did in 1770. We've adopted European mindsets because the mass urban concentration of the population has recreated the same social ills as Europe. We need to depopulate urban areas, like yesterday. Mankind is not meant to live in giant ant hives.

American cars are poorly designed and poorly built. The liberal doesn't avoid American cars because "they're racist", the conservative vastly prefers them because he is.

Stupid and ignorant people rely on simple heuristics to make decisions. They do not rationally evaluate all of the pros and cons of a purchase and make the one that is materially best, they use emotion to prejudice them towards a selection and then that colors any evaluation, causing them to engage in double standards galore in an attempt to confirm their bias. They will only willingly choose their non-preferred item if it is so absurdly better that no matter how they try to skew the results in the other's favor, it still fails.

You could offer a conservative car shopper a brand-new Accord for $1000 and he'd still go with the American option, and he'd feel good about paying $40,000 for it. He's that racist against the Japanese and that preferential to white people.

There's 2 reasons you buy an American car
    >You want a work/offroading vehicle
    >You want to maximize performance/cost

Mustangs, challys, corvettes, etc... are the best performance cars relative to their costs. Higher end trims are still <100k and compete with the best in the world.
Ford trucks, all the offroad offerings are cheap enough you don't worry about breaking them and they're really good at what they do.

But if you're not buying those 2, there's no reason to buy anything the American companies offer. Their base cars are mediocre, their luxuries suck, and they're not particularly reliable.
