this is any Japanese car actually. Anyone who has trouble with something built in Japan is probably a wrenchlet and black. It's insane how all the greatest cars and motorcycles ever made are from this one tiny country.

95% as good as a Geo Metro on gas, but much faster.

there are tons of american shitboxes that aren't even considered that good that can do stuff like this. the average age of a car in america is over 10 years old and that includes ones from american brands.

            Anonymous

The difference is that you have decent gas and good roads, while thirdworlder there is constantly going through a rally in his daily commute and his fuel is pissoline instead of normal gas, and even then the shitbox wouldn't break.
Your "bulletproof" cars wouldn't last half a decade in a third world country.

bro if anything Japanese fails in your hands it says nothing about the manufacturer and everything about you.

            Anonymous

pretending this isn't bait for a second, the 7M is notorious for blowing head gaskets due to undertorqued head bolts from the factory. the story goes that it had initially been intended to use an asbestos gasket but then asbestos got banned so toyota had to make a last minute change to graphite gaskets but didn't revise the torque value for whatever reason. lots of forum posts say that this was "revised" but so far nobody has actually posted any TSBs about it or anything like that.
but now every 7M owner knows that you torque the head up to at least 75 ft-lb and not the 58 ft-lb the manual calls for.

            Anonymous

I think the real trouble is just that they didn't get to do the long term testing they usually would before releasing a car, because of the last minute change.

I bet they had that asbestos gasket absolutely dialed in with just the right head bolt torque to give it the best durability in a whole range of weather conditions and heat cycle scenarios.

            Anonymous

for sure, but it's worth mentioning that even the 5M-GE which did have asbestos gaskets suffers from the same problem, but not as likely/often because the combustion pressures aren't as high as they are with the 7M.

Then explain why my shitty corolla kept breaking down all the time cuz I am told it costs me nothing to do anything with it. Just drive. I fell for this stupid meme. I went to replace this shitty npc cuckbox with Soul. I am told that all I need to spend is a tiny amount of money to maintain it. My soul keeps running all the time and never lets me down. Mine already outruns the shitty NPC cuckbox, Corolla.

I was told that I didn't need to maintain it. I had no problems with it until 5,000 miles, but then it kept breaking down all the time. I assume that the dealership and others lied to me, so I decided to send the shitty NPC cuckbox to the local mechanic shop to find out what was wrong with it. According to them, it needs an oil change and more maintenance. However, they also discovered that the engine is beyond repair. It would cost me a lot to replace the engine. I just decided to trade in the shitty NPC cuckbox car for a Soul.

that being said I bought a 1999 toyota sienna recently and the thing is a fricking TANK. it has 280,000 miles and runs beautifully, unironically

of course the main difference is the level of care the previous owners took in maintaining their cars. the guy I bought my lexus from likely never replaced the transmission fluid, didn't replace the oil as often as he should have. while the sienna owner probably replaced the transmission fluid at least twice.
