The N52 has all the problems associated with the N54 while still being naturally aspirated. At least the N54 can be made to be decently quick.
        >post coche
        Quale?

          Anonymous

The N52 is missing two turbos, wastegates, and direct injection which makes up 80% of the N54's problems leaving you a engine with a bunch of oil leaks (valve cover, oil pan, oil filter housing) and the occasional VANOS issue.

            Anonymous

Yea, turbos have wastegates. That isn't what causes the valve cover, oil pan gasket, or oil filter housing gasket to leak. It also isn't what causes VANOS solenoid issues lol (otherwise the N52 wouldn't have all those problems). The direct injection does require extra maintenance though.

            Anonymous

Yeah except you're intentionally ignoring that a good chunk of the N54 problems were directly because of the crappy turbos, rattling or worn wastegates, or the injectors getting stuck open.

You can fix the oil leaks in a weekend and be good for another 100,000 miles/10 years, and the Vanos issues are not nearly as common as turbo issues making your N54 go into limp mode and give the BMW chime of death while it throws a over boost code or the hpfp dying and leaving you stranded. The N52 is unironically the only newer non-M BMW motor you can track reliably with minimal issues. The turbo motors all put out too much heat and kill themselves when ran hard for extensive periods of time

            Anonymous

            Turbo problems aren't engine problems.
            Index 12 injectors are reliable.
Get a better oil cooler if you want to track an N54 without going into limp mode.
            Pre-LCI E90s are fricking ugly.
            N52s are fricking slow.
That combination makes them fricking gay.

You know what's slower than a N52? A N54 in limp mode or jackstands bb. You have to actually get on a track to be fast on it, not end the day halfway so a tow truck can bring your broken car home.

I have a N55 powered E92 LCI with a manuel. They're lots of fun, but watch the frick out for twats that buy them and don't do any of the maintenance.

When I bought the car it looked and felt good. After owning for a year I finally decided to get it on jackstands to do my DIY shit and every single oil famous oil seal was leaking. BMW put oil in the control arm bushings for comfort and they were all fricked. Practically all the wear items on the car were fricked at ~60k miles and 13 years of age.

If wrenching is a hobby you enjoy then get one. If not, then get a Toyota or something.

Expect to pay 50% of the car's purchase value in parts alone. And only get one if you're up for DIY'ing everything - except for alignments and air con work. Otherwise you're much better off just buying a newer BMW.

I've got a 2011 330d. Unless the car is ultra low kilometers, you need to have the timing chains and guides done at roughly 150,000KM. With the age of them now, you'd probably be silly not to buy one with it already done.

      Other issues;

      1. Glow plug module if standard usually shits itself.
      2. DPF clogging up. Recommend a delete.
      3. EGR valve clogging up the intake. Delete.
      4. Remap will put you at 220KW and 600NM.

I've got the M Sport and it comes with a staggered 18" setup. I've put the 330i 17" wheels on for a square setup and cheaper replacement tyres.

I get 5-6L per 100KM on the highway, around the city it does 7-8L to the 100KM.

Vastly superior car to the 335i, simply for the gearbox being 6hp26 instead of 6hp21. What the frick were BMW thinking with that one?

        Anonymous

So do the chain upon buying and frickoff the emissions shit prior to a remap and it should be good to go?

Chain is at the rear of the engine and is a transmission out job. Buy one that has already had it done.

How fricked am I? Last owner straight piped it, and it’s already in the shop for misfiring issues.
