That clip everyone watches was not some shit that happened as soon as this guy pulled out of his driveway. He knowingly left the house with a stuck throttle and then drove around for an hour with the vehicle in that condition. He had all the time in the world to bring it to a safe stop before he completely cooked his brakes.

I would have avoided that situation by not driving on a public road with that vehicle, not fricking around town once it became obvious it was completely unsafe and failing all of that I would have killed the ignition before intentionally colliding with a static object if I somehow got to the point right before that crash happened.

The light was green, the best scenario would've been to aim in between two cars in front.
Even if you scrape on both sides, it's not going to have anything close to the full-on impact of just ramming the one suv.

The drive is a fricking moron. He tries to go for the turning lane but just gives, up he might as have gone into the oncomming lane and tried to thread the needle. Instead he just gives up, locks his arms and just accepts the crash.

    >installed tiny brakes to begin with
    >sticky throttle
    >brakes already cooking and smelling
    >STILL does multiple red light pulls
    >not wearing the entire harness despite obviously flying at relatively high speeds (likely over 60mph)
    >no handbrake / emergency brake installed

Also he never downshifted. According to his explanation, he had to go into park before he could downshift, which seems completely absurd to me, but then I don't know shit about classic US cars.
So many things went wrong on this one, I like to think just two of these red flags would have me pulling over.

The car had so much torque that it wanted to go over 50 mph just by idling. The guy was riding the brakes the whole way just to keep it under the speed limit. The only thing they could've done was to never have gotten into the car to begin with.

It wasn't a torque issue, the idle was too high.

Old school single cam big block V8s with no VVT, no VVL, and carbs are way more limited in their idle control.
Throw in the fattest fricking 5000-7000RPM cam possible, a supercharger, and you have your recipe for 150 or more HP at the wheels in an idling state of 1300+ RPM.

engine probably chugs 500+lb-ft set up the way it was. math works out to 120-150HP at 1300-1500RPM

            >"I'm having to blip the throttle at stop lights to get it to idle down".
The brakes, though "small" by today's standard that sees quad piston calipers on civics, we're more than adequate to stop the vehicle.
It's was 100% caused by the lack of a secondary throttle return spring.

            ....because the throttle was sticking.
Any and all brakes would have been smoked at some point due to the fact he was riding them the entire time...due to a stuck throttle.
The brakes he had lasted longer than a stock setup would have.
Without a stuck throttle the brakes he had would have functioned correctly for eternity.

This video along with just growing up made me realize that getting cars from that era is a lost cause as boomers have completely fricked them up.

      I Love You

Boomers treated them like cheap beaters just like the millennials treat 500 dollar beater. Then 40 year later hur dur where all teh cars gone.

I hate the boomers so much

fricking this. Boomers ran all the good cars right into the fricking ground, then suddenly remembered how much they LOVED the mustang they abandoned in the woods after it became worth 40 grand because it was numbers matching

Just like how all boomers are fudds who let gun laws take away anything that wasn't some bolt action wooden piece of shit like a moshit gaygant.

Yeah, I saw that too when I watched the video. One of the most valuable lessons I ever got was from a soccer coach I had who taught the team to reflexively tuck our arms and legs in a fall so that we wouldn't plant anything straight and break or tear it. We all hates it while we were learning it; but its probably saved me from wrecking myself on quite a few occasions over the years.

I tell people this all the time when I am roller blading. I've seen someone get a compound fracture by sticking their arms out to catch themselves. Another person destroyed something in their leg that went POP jutting out their foot and getting their skate twisted underneath themselves.

Unironically the best way to learn how to fall is to watch 10 minuets of pro wrestling and watching how those guys hit the mat. Landing flat on your back with your chin tucked is the best way to hit the ground.

it was unironically the smartest decision in this case. the other guy just smacked his teeth but if the driver wasnt holding to the wheel, he would slam his forehead on the wheel with the same force. if he survived, he would have become drooling mouth moronic for all his life.

i would love it if there were NTSB style investigations into car crashes like this. i tried to look up if there were lawsuits, but gave up after about 15 minutes

Also, the Boomer clearly never played enough video games. There were clearly many things he could have done to lessen the damage of the impact.
