Way smaller packaging means you can fit much more displacement in a smaller area. They can't rev as high because you've got a spindly rod between your cam and your rocker, but that doesn't matter when you can pack a couple extra liters in the same amount of space. And theres no replacement for displacement.

Other than the reasons already mentioned
        >Smaller size, so larger displacement
        >Smaller size, so less weight (theoretically)

They are also much simpler engines. One cam, a pushrod, a rocker, follower, and then the valve/spring etc.

There is drag in every single contact point. Now imagine how many contact points there are in a OHC engine vs a Push-rod. Less parts means less complexity, less spinning weight, more efficiency.

Americans believe in big fricking engines that have lots of torque and lots of horsepower. It's how we won at Le Mans, too, until the Euros chimped out at us and banned the GT40.

The GT40 was never banned, it was simply a non factor once the Porsche 917 started to race Which is a bit of a shame, maybe in an ideal world we'd see the brits actually developing the car to try and fight Porsche, but they eventually got there with the Group C Jaguars. But that's all beside the point, the point is, the GT40 was never american in the first place, americans are notoriously bad engineers and good liars

        Anonymous

The gt40 wasn't banned, but the version with the 7 liter engine engine was banned as regulations limited engine size to 5l liters for sportscars (thus porsche 917/ferrari 512). Not that would have made the difference given that turbocharging was just around the corner, but it's remarcable to note how the ford 427 sohc managed to get banned from both endurance racing and NASCAR

          Anonymous

GT40 never had the cammer that was in nascar. if it did, it would likely be making close to 8 or 900 HP naturally aspirated. i think Ford could've easily made a prototype that would've put up a serious fight against the 917k even with its turbo charging. Jaguar proved they could beat Porsche with raw displacement even during the 80s at the peak of turbo power. i bet ford could've done the same in the 70s if they were actually allowed to use their engines.

            Anonymous

The cammer never did a single race in nascar either, it was premptively banned before it could. It only raced in stock drag racing:
            https://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/cammer-the-real-story-of-the-legendary-ford-427-sohc-v8/

And jaguar put up a fight in the 80's because group c regs managed to balance out all kinds of engine configurations imaginable simply by restricting the fuel consumption, but it must also be said that the jaguar prototype being newer and having a more advanced chassis and aero package than the porsche 956 also helped a lot.

Because when developing a car the budget can go into things that don't matter, like a stupidly high top speed, or things that do matter, like good handling.

Americans are too moronic to make a car that handles well, outside of slapping 305 semi-slicks on a corvette to make it resemble cornering. As a result it's easier for their tiny little monkey brains to just keep shoveling the same truck engine into whatever lightweight car they can, with increasing horsepower levels. It's literally all they know how to do.

Meanwhile the Europeans and japanese are focused on things that do matter like nurburgring lap times, which is a cumulation of ALL things related to performance, not just top line speed. Obviously this takes much smarter engineers to accomplish than anything Americans are capable of producing.

The best location for setting speed records, and most of the people who can oversee a record attempt are located in the US.

So even if an international group wants to set a record, they're going to come to the US to set it, and knowing that they often pick parts or vehicles they know will be available.

Power to weight ratio really doesn't translate perfectly. Like its effective within certain ranges, but take a look at something like a modified gtr that puts out 1000hp. A 1000hp gtr is usually an even match for a liter bike. And yet liter bikes have around a 2.25 power to weight vs a gtr's 3.8. There's a limit to ratios and tractional advantages. Keep in mind too that unsprung weight ratios usually go down as you go to higher weight, as a fully independent suspension system on a jeep track hawk is not going to make up the same ratio of weight to the rest of the chassis as something like the suspension on a miata or mr2. This also makes power more effective when being sent to the wheels, since there's more force put down on the wheels for traction from weight but less weight in the drivetrain. At the end of the day, lotuses do not have much power and even if you make the argument of power to weight, the amount of time spent accelerating and not going through turns that eat all of your momentum is enough to prioritize raw power over handling. This is why tracks like tsukuba are so good for seeing handling, since the track is physically too small to carry much speed and there's multiple tight hairpins, which seem to be absent in a lot of american tracks funny enough

yet, american cars like the GTP

            https://i.imgur.com/8qRxSRv.jpeg

probably would against euroshitboxes since they apparently can't take advantage of power to weight ratio, even though american cars easily can.

remember pic related and how hard this shit on everyone?

had no problem beating more powerful cars on american tracks.

seems to just be a euro thing to not be able to take advantage of power to weight, and superior acceleration that comes from it.

        >european cars can't win with higher power to weight ratios but americans can
so that's a no on lotus being able to turn.

        Why are you being disingenuous? That's not a 1LE Package, it's a 1LE Performance.
The package gets a 3.04.00 on Virginia: https://fastestlaps.com/models/chevrolet-camaro-1le-mk-v1

i'm comparing the same generation camaro (5th gen) to the same generation lotus, but if you want to be a moron and compare the newer camaro, go ahead. looks like its still faster than the lotus despite having even less power. which begs the question. can the lotus actually turn?

none of the first 6 results are european hyper cars. the track record is an Acura race car.

            where does that leave europe?

It is pretty bad comparing something like a senna which has a production run of about 500 and sell for 2 mil to a fricking corvette. Id call something like a c6r a closer comparison with price and tech in it.

You're not understanding comparisons. You're not faster or better if you need to spend 10x as much to achieve that. What do you think would happen if they put 10x more money into the "slower" vehicle?

Typical american behavior, cowardly runs away when presented with the truth, it's only a shame such cowardly bugmen couldn't built the fastest production car in the world to run away from the truth even faster, but that's expected from americans, their mind is not for engineering, just for lying

Unironically true, when America gained its independence they asked the French to train with their troops being that they effectively defeated the English on their behalf. And during Napoleons reign they were fearful of and adopted French standards in appeasement of Napoleon, it was well known he had sights on the US being that one of his goals was to rebuild the French Empire - And now you know why Americans drive on the Right.
