Why are Americans so obsessed with Toyota?
How come they don't have their own popular budget car brands?

In yurop, there's barely any japanese cars, be it budget or luxury.
Mazda is probably the most popular japanese manufacturer but there's still a small number of them on the road compared to european brands.

Ford stopped selling cars here explicitly because the margins are too small. They completely conceded the space to Japs and Koreans who actually make quality, reliable small vehicles. European cars just aren't reliable so they only exist here as luxury lease vehicles

The best selling Japanese cars in Europe are, in fact, Toyotas.

we don't have crippling protectionist tariffs on japanese cars, so they're able to be sold at prices competitive to domestic companies. the average consumer in europe has no reason to buy japanese because volkswagon/audi/bmw will beat them on price/features

All of the American manufacturers stopped selling sedans, and one of them also stopped selling coupes. If you live in the US and want to buy American, your options are a Corvette, Mustang, or Japanese/European brand if you want a car.

American sports cars are cool but I wouldn't be caught driving an American economy shitbox. A good manufacturer knows how to make both.

Starting to feel Toyota is memeing themselves right now
    >stealerships are putting insane mark ups on high demanding SUVs and trucks for no reason
    >toyota reliability is slowly dying cause of the shit hybrid i4s(excluding the cars) and v6s
    >tacoma transmissions somehow overheating over minor off-road shit
    >prius is 10x beautiful but has shit steering wheel
    >Cars are either very appealing or appalling in some areas
    >still less moronic than the business choices GM makes
It's a love-hate thing with this brand. I'd like the crown ""wagon"" when it comes.

What kind of irrelevant metric is that? Only 2 out of the 10 best selling vehicles in North America are Toyota's.

Toyota has always been designed for the American market.

I've read some history of the company.
They were working on the corolla in the 60's in Southern California. The engine was struggling with highway speeds. After tuning and redesigns they did test runs on the local freeways- when they were finally able to pass a volkswagen beetle on a hill they knew they finally had enough improvement for production.

Point being is that it wasn't simply an import to the U.S. of a Japanese vehicle. It was designed, engineered and built in the U.S. The Tundra is the same way.

The Environmental Protection Agency is killing the American car market.
The auto stop function at every red light is enough to insist the EPA is defunded.

technically, cadlliac is still making cars with the CT4 and CT5, although for how much longer, who knows.
