normcattle love screens. they look at phone screens when they wake up. they look at screens when they drive to work, on billboards on dashboards and on phones that they look at while driving. they look at screens at work. in fact, many wagies have multiple screens on their desk because more screens means more productivity. they get home and after a long day of staring at screens, and they stare at more screens. they raise and entertain their children with screens. when theyre falling to sleep, its to the sights and sounds of screens.

Gonna have to walk back King Black person's legislation (good fricking luck getting ANYTHING un-passed especially something "safety" related, cuck public loves that shit) that mandated backup cameras in all cars because a couple of tards ran over dey chilluns. Until the camera requirement is gone there needs to be a screen for using that camera, and while there's a screen there anyway it's an excuse to cram all the infotainment and other controls in there so manufacturers get to save $0.50 per vehicle while upcharging +$1000 or more for the "features" while driving normalhomosexuals wild because it's "tech."

Buy used and keep your car forever because things are only going to get worse.

Why are screens bad? They're amazing. Can fit way more controls and configurations in them, and can customize what they display. No longer do we need "error codes", it will just say in full sentences what's wrong with the car. Can even install your own custom operating system. It's a car enthusiast's dream.

All that can be achieved with a nice HUD projected onto your windshield. There is just something inherently eye straining about lcd screens that blast their led backlight straight into your eyes while the reflected and scattered light of huds and e-ink screens with sidelighting are as nice to look at as a nice book.

The displays are also not very good at being readable under the direct sunlight, so having physical dials with physical arrows is a must.

Screens are bad because you can't properly use a touch screen while moving. You need physical buttons. If you claim you personally don't have this problem, you're either lying, or are a stupid moron.
The other problem with screens is that no one in the modern world seems to know how to build a decent UI.

Cars have had screens for 30 years. Backup cameras have been mandated for over a decade now. New cars have far too many settings and features and adjustable this and customizable that, it's impossible to give every single thing its own dedicated button

this is me. I just hate it when it's a grafted on screen rather than something integrated in the actual panel. sadly most brands seem to have chosen former rather than latter.

    >capacitive touch buttons
Yikes. I'm with you on that. I don't mind some decent screens but a knob for quick volume, temperature, and fan speed changes is all I ask. Oh and a column stalk shifter or physical shifter knob. Manufacturers spam digital screens for cost reduction. A cheap LCD from China probably costs less than an analog instrument panel. The UI in that car looks like it saves money compared to a more traditional mechanical UI.

If you want to see what's effective ergonomically, take a look at the wienerpit of a fighter plane. Normoids want presentation over utility though.

It's about cost. The fact that the braindead consoomer thinks making anything at all anywhere like his iphone is just a convenient secondary. Slapping two big touch screens on your dash and calling it a day is much cheaper and easier to produce than a set of electromechanical gauges and physical controls such as buttons, levers and knobs.

that's navigating the UI. Same in my Miata.
It has joystick movement with click in and twist.
Volume can be controlled at the steering wheel buttons. Every movement of it has a very satisfying feeling.
It didn't take long for me to record most operations to muscle memory without taking my eyes off the road. With touch screens, I constantly miss the buttons any time the car isn't on a flawless, paved straight road.
