Android Auto and Carplay fricking suck. I still just run infotainment off my phone on the windshield. Faster, more reliable, doesn't disconnect. I run audio from bluetooth.

    >What do you MEAN I can just put my phone in a phone holder and bluetooth my music instead of plugging into another god damn screen that's basically the same shit as my phone?

Zoomers, explain your logic. This is like plugging your phone into a 2" larger iPad and thinking that's a worthwhile endeavor. I could understand if Apple Car Play was some heads up display mixed-reality thing where you could interact via gestures or something, but come the frick on, it's just an in-dash screen.

      Anonymous

Not a zoomer, but I'll join in anyway. I used a phone in a mount with bluetooth for years, now have a truck with wired CarPlay/AA, and it's a vastly superior experience. 2" doesn't sound like much on paper but an 8" car screen is massively bigger in area than a 6" phone screen (pic is the closest comparison I could come up with) and you get a much better interface for use while driving, with bigger buttons, less clutter, a split screen where you can have nav on one side and music etc. on the other, and so on. You also get integration with steering wheel controls and stuff, exactly what depends on the car but for example my truck's voice command button activates Siri when in CarPlay. (And I refuse to put the phone on always listening "hey siri" mode so that's important.)

Android Auto and Carplay fricking suck. I still just run infotainment off my phone on the windshield. Faster, more reliable, doesn't disconnect. I run audio from bluetooth.

      >Faster, more reliable, doesn't disconnect.
If you've had issues with that it's probably because of shitty cables. I struggled with that at the beginning but eventually bought a high-quality one and it's been flawless for over a year.

You're just further proving people don't shit know shit about tech.

-You don't need a massive screen, you're driving Black person, not watching porn or editing a movie.

-The interface and split screen can be done with apps if you're really that moronic that you NEEEEED to see your music at the same time as nav.

-Bluetooth from a phone will allow steering controls to work, moron.

Android Auto/Apple Car Play is the most senseless bullshit since the Car Bra that rusted out every stupid Boomer's hood with their ugly "rock chip protector".

I think these phone mirroring systems are pretty over rated. I used it once in a hire car and the experience was pretty lame. It’s the exact same thing as your phone screen but with a shitty unresponsive touch screen that needs multiple taps to register your input. I have my phone on a vent mount and it’s pretty much the exact same thing. But the screen on my phone will always look better and be more responsive than the shitty screen they put into my car dashboard. If I was looking at buying a new car it’s a nice to have. But it’s not a must have.

Between this and the Apple thread, I didn’t know gayMAN jeets shilled on DA of all places.

Anyways phone shit was always a Trojan horse that siphoned car user data into the pockets of big tech.
And it’s only grown in scale like a cancer tumor.
Most companies are looking to drop it soon because they’ve done the math for how much money they have missed out on (billions).

I have an Android phone and the C8 has the best experience of the cars I've driven (I rent a lot of cars off of Turo). Wireless Android Auto, nice big screen tilted toward the driver.

Honestly, Android Auto is nice for the simple reason that I can just put Google Maps up on the car's main screen. No auto company's native GPS is going to beat Google Auto, and it's always slightly annoying when you just have to turn the Bluetooth on and listen to the directions without actually seeing the map.

Plus, I can use Google Maps through it without turning off the FM Radio, which is nice.

As a boomer who uses GPS virtually every day, same. Like this guy said, Google Maps is better than virtually every auto manufacturers' built-in GPS.

Honestly I don't like it built in. I would rather be able to replace my head unit with an aftermarket one that's not made with a 15 year old processor that lags the basic boot animation and every touch or animation on screen.

Yes I do homosexual. My point is I hate the new touch screens that cannot be replaced because they contain the radio the climate controls and other car settings. Give me a classic double din slot I can put my own premium after market stereo in and I'll be happy
