If Western Automakers Aren't Already Terrified Of Chinese EVs, They Probably Should Be

BASED

>Whether you have a problem buying a Chinese EV or not, that still doesn’t change the fact that China is investing heavily in its electric future, or the fact that the build quality and engineering gaps continue to close between Chinese and legacy Western automakers — with some Chinese automakers even surpassing the Western ones. Without Geelys and BYDs available to test drive in the U.S., though, it can be hard to gauge just how good China’s EVs have gotten. Recently, Kevin Williams at InsideEVs spent a week at the Beijing Auto Show, driving more than a dozen cars and spending time in many more. His takeaway? “We’re cooked.”
https://insideevs.com/features/719015/china-is-ahead-of-west/

Most brands had doors that closed with a solid thunk, with soft-touch materials in the correct places, when appropriate to the vehicle’s price point. And no matter the price point, they all had responsive, integrated vehicle interfaces that were quick, pretty, and ubiquitous.

>A basic infotainment system in any given moderately priced Chinese EV beats the brakes off some systems in cars that cost six figures.

>There are reasons for that, but namely, Chinese EVs are so good now—as is much of its urban infrastructure—that concerns about range or charging just aren’t as pertinent to the average consumer as they once were.

I am waiting for them to build a factory in the US when all the FORD/GM etc.. are in Mexico/Canada. Then they can pump out $15,000 cars and use the slogan "Made in America, by Americans, for Americans". Just 3 years of them selling at that price would be enough.
It would bankrupt those legacy companies and really they cant justify a bailout if 50%+ of their over priced cars are made in Mexico.

Poorgays would be attracted to these things at the proposed price point, but then again, EV favorability has been soured in America. Also Chinesium

I doubt the US would even let them build a plant here (then again capitalism), but you can bet your sweet little ass they will build in Mexico to dodge tariffs

Helps that American manufacturers are sabotaging themselves. BYD is going to own all markets from Mexico to Argentina, and Chevy and Ford are going to be relegated as regional manufacturers who make overpriced trucks for people who can't afford them

It's funny you mention this because Chinese cars already have a reputation of unreliability in Latin America after being sold there for over 10 years. The parts are hard to get, the build quality is inconsistent to non existent, the warranties are crap. Poor thirdies also keep their cars for a longer time than westies and they're not interested in a BYD when electricity is expensive and hard to get (remember, a lot of them park their cars outside in cities). It's to the point that a lot of them don't even like Chevys (which most of the time are GM SAIC cars like the Sail).

They're worse than even Korean cars. Hyundai and Kia are seen as good cars in comparison.

Consumer Reports also found that Teslas were cheaper on average to maintain/repair than any other major auto brand, at least for the first ten years of a car's life. So going by those two different reports, it is obviously possible to make EVs that do not cost much to maintain, but other automakers must be failing hard at it. https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-maintenance/the-cost-of-car-ownership-a1854979198/

Because the CIA has a vested interest in making Americans choose a Tesla for a EV because they spy for the CIA and are the choice of EV for the CIA in America theirselves with its sentry surveillance.

The Democrats pushed for this whole green new deal and electric vehicle transition but they’re not pushing for a cheap Electric car for the masses that Tesla hasn’t filled because of what? Because they want the cars to spy on you and only want the CIA to do it, not the Chinese.

I'm more than likely going to be buying an MG4 before the financial year is out.
Was considering a BYD Dolphin since it's the same price and has a few extra features (360 camera, sat nav) but ultimately I'm going with the MG since it'll have a way easier time with aftersales support/warranty, plus it's RWD and perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Also only have to service it every 2 years.

It'll be AU$34k after rebates in my state, hoping I can get a few little extras or discounts by buying it just before the end of the financial year when dealers are most desperate to move stock.

Cars becoming nothing more than another consumer electronic could not have worked out better for them. The industrial advantage they have in batteries and automotive supply chains is huge.
Ironically they could not compete with legacy ICE vehicles, but western governments made sure to shut that advantage down and force EVs that neither the US or Europe has the capacity to manufacture competitively and won’t for quite some time.
