    Depends.
On a 700 buck 1988 Toyota Corolla? Most definitely.
A Mercedes S126 weekend car? Not at all.

I hold the opposite opinion. Spend that money on a Toyota fixing all the old age problems and you end up with a reliable shit box that will carry you another 5-10 years easily. Spending it on a weekend car is kind of wasteful.

Also, he said 20 years old, which would be 2004. 1988 is 36 years old

Fricking knew it. That’s why Chinese, American and Japanese cars are superior. Rust will
tell you when time’s up and not give you any false hope.

ehh, pretty normal. I think I spend a similar amount, but I don't track it like some autismo.
Keep in mind a lot of those won't have to be replaced again, probably ever. It's just shit that lasted 20 years and after replacing will last another 20.

how are you able to do your own timing related mechanic work but you don't know how to do a fricking oil change

    >bought mechanically fricked but good condition old f150 for $500
    >spent about 5 grand fixing or repairing daily
    >$5500 and all but guaranteed to run yet another 200k, at least
    >just became a classic (and emissions exempt) this year too
seems pretty worth it to meseems pretty worth it to me

It's for emissions dingus, anything over 25 years is "classic" and gets exempt. Nobody is calling it a classic car in the conventional sense.

      aeromotors (estonia)

Any amount is to much money you could've just bought the tools and wrenched yourself instead of making up a cope excuse

the stuff that i did myself (only cost of parts) and stuff that a mechanic did is clearly shown

why are you able to do work on the timing system of an engine but not change your own oil?

when are these prices from? 1998?
6L of antifreeze? is this perhaps a 2 cylinder motorcycle?
my car takes like 6 GALLONS, my trucks takes over 8 GALLONS

here in 2024, ONE high-end tire costs ~$400 on anything bigger than a compact
alignment (a real one) is also around $400 if nothing is particularly wrong
ONE hour of mechanic shop time is ~$150 by itself

You can get a tiny shitbox tire for like 50 € here if you don't care about durability or performance too much. Decent brands go for 2-3 times that.
The cheap ones are fine if you mostly just drive in the city and the shitbox is one failed inspection away from being scrapped anyway.
