the double cab is is a pain in the ass to drive around in town. needed something with a bed and the 4runner with same v8 gets same mpgs go figure. older tacomas are about half the size but 2-3x what i paid, fricking clown world. an sr5 v8 is more affordable than a compact truck

Funny how zoomies have convinced themselves these little ⅛ton pickups were ever convenient or usable. Back in the day they were joke lifestyle vehicles for teenagers to buy for pennies and drive into the ground, because nobody who did any actual real work would touch them. Less utility than a minivan, pure style over substance.

??? have you ever been to where people live?

defining your use case as a car buyer is critical to making sure you maximize your vehicle’s usefulness.
the maverick is useless for anything that isnt people moving and home depot runs. however it excels at those things very well.
if youre towing at all (especially with the hybrid’s CVT) you really should step up to the ranger. with the ranger you get a much more rigid construction and a transmission that’s actually built to tow.

It's surprisingly good at it too, I pulled a ~5k trailer 600mi last year and was shocked at how effortlessly my Ranger handled it.

To be fair most mini trucks had such pathetic tow ratings that these new ones aren't that different.

so they are just like the other 90% of pickups sold in US
      except affordable I guess

Did you ever think maybe not everyone needs to do "real work"? If I'm not towing 20klbs or driving over boulders with a literal ton of shit in the bed then why do I need to spend 60k on a truck?

Pretty much this. Had a ranger for a little bit when I was younger and it even balked at something as simple as a hay bale in the back and did not like it. Sold it and haven’t looked back since.
