Obselete mustangs

Is it just me or are these the most useless cars to command a price higher than $10k? Literally every saleen and roush mustang built out of the s197 seems like it was a dead end by the time the coyote came out. They look all goudy and overstyled and they all have wheezing modular variants under the hood. They didn't even come with irs simply for the reason that it was cheaper to throw in a live axle. At least the new edge stangs looked nice. I still can't for the life of me understand what makes any of the s197's worth anything besides a gt500. Nothing else feels like it even has collector's value. Whats the deal?

The Gt500 is pretty shit too. That generation is essentially impossible to consider after the S550. S550 base GT shits on a s197 gt500.
The 5th Gen SS Camaro actually has redeeming features.

S550s are fricking ugly and the Coyote sounds like ass. Also, you're a homosexual.

To be fair, it was at a time ford had the market cornered. There was no Camaro, and dodge was just getting out chargers/challengers and even then weren't that much better with the 5.7 and higher prices. Ford knew they could get away with imo the worst gen mustang without restitution, who cares what's faster when you sell ten to one in base models, which is what the mustang excels best at.

      >why can't I afford something I want

I'd rather have a 2008 Saleen or Roush than a 2015 GT, and it looks like the market agrees

The GT500 is better simply because the TR6060 shits on the MT82, the solid axle is stronger and they respond insanely well to mods. I'd much rather a GT500 over a S550 GT personally.

No moron, it's better simply because it's not chink built. Let alone the high rev gear lockout problems the MT82 has. Keep pretending your shit opinion matters, it's comical.

Special edition mustangs basically always hold their value because they attract the same boomer crowd as corvette owners.
It doesn't matter if mechanically it's worthless like the same generation GT model, the boomers who bought them think they're worth way more than the regular GT just because it has some fancy body panels.
Also late S197s with the gen 1 coyote are a great cheap-ish drag car option. Basically the modern fox body, just not as dirt cheap yet.

Too true, the prices on the Saleen foxbodies are insane.

Saleen isn't just a body kit, they rework the suspension and do bolt-ons to an available supercharger. It's far better than a stock GT. The old Roush Stage 1's were just a body kit on a stock GT.

Too true, the prices on the Saleen foxbodies are insane.

They're in line with a driver quality Fox Cobra, not nearly as bad as a preserved '93 Cobra or Cobra R.

That the Cobra is worth more or the prices in general? Even clean stock run of the mill GTs have eclipsed 20k. People are willing to pay more for non ragged out pieces of shit. Post your Fox btw, love me some fox.

Based. These are the only ones I wouldn't consider obsolete. If all you want to do is do drag runs, sure, get the live axle. Otherwise IRS and the improved traction control of the S550+ is so much better. S650 is a stinker though. Nothing will make me ok with that interior and the additional weight.

Live axle was a good thing. I will never buy an irs mustang. It marked when Ford went downhill, and the v6 "gt" solidified Fords homosexualry.

The 3.7 V6 S197 was a pretty underrated car though, the Cyclone 3.7 is reliable and it makes 300hp like a 350Z with LRA.

Just hard to find one with the right options (Performance Pack with 3.73s)

Way I look for cars is vastly different. I found a mustang graveyard for an 8.8 to swap in an originally v6 car I got, did not care about ratio I'm putting 4.10s in it anyway.

This anon speaks the truth. 2011-2014 v6s are essentially an American 370z. Also it's the best sounding 6 cylinder this side of an RB26, listen to one with an exhaust.

If you got the deluxe tweed cloth seats, they are some of the best feeling bucket seats in the world. I have them in my SN95 and I've done several road trips in it and not had my ass ache from sitting. But yea, the rest of the interior is pretty lame.

I know about the interiors and I plan to replace the seats (one local guy put Cougar seats in his) and for the handling, I plan to make it a long term project and install IRS and good suspension in it

Those are pretty hard to come by. You might be better off installing a Griggs, Maximum Motorsports or Steeda torque arm and Watts link instead.

The saleens are kinda of a you either get it or you don’t. They do offer legitimate performance upgrades both to the suspension and power train depending on what package you got. But some people they just see a riced out GT for double the price and think they could do a better supercharger upgrade for less. I’ll tell you what though I bet the saleen will be way better taken care of than whatever else you were looking at.

    Shelby is king though
