Why are they cheap? An actual cool 2019 car with relatively low miles would be more expensive

Think about why they're cheap before you get excited. You can get a 10 year old maserati for 1/3rd of its new price. Pretty cool right? But you know why it's that cheap. Why is the tesla so cheap?

That's not cheap at all compared to cars sold around the same time.

On auto trader UK cheapest 2019 Tesla is £14k vs 3 series at £9k, a4 at £10k and C-class at £10k.

Interesting how the stereotype is real.

That's a bit misleading because there are still some F30s on 19 plates, which is a 2011/2012 vintage car. You should probably compare to the cheapest G20

Because Hertz bought a frickton of them, couldn't get anyone to rent them because people are reluctant to rent cars they're not used to, and dumped them all on the used market at the same time.

Over here all the teslas are driven to their warranty mileage and immediately put to sale. Seems kind of suspicious to me

        Anonymous

it wasn't only that, Teslas are expensive to collision repair (though maintanance is even cheaper than Toyotas)
people that were not used to the instant torque and power of the Teslas dented them a lot, which is expensive to repair
Hertz itself didn't really prepare their staff or in general to EVs with charging stations and training their staff instead requiring people to charge the cars before giving them back (which is really annoying to do right before giving it back)
they also bought them at the top of their cost bubble during the pandemic and got hit with the full brunt of teslas price cuts
if you look at prices before and after then the prices are coming down pretty gradually in line with reductions in costs to Tesla which they are giving back to customers, Tesla has had massive reductions in COGS

tl:dr collision repair cost, mismanagement and bad timing

Why do Tesla sales always present the price of the vehicle with
    >*after tax credit
    >**estimated savings on not buying gas
Are these truly any cheaper to maintain than ICE? I don't think they are.

      do you trust CR? https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-maintenance/the-cost-of-car-ownership-a1854979198/
Teslas are the cheapest to maintain. lots of other analysis's say it too.

For that OP pic, the used EV credit is POS, and non-recoverable by IRS. It makes sense to show it.

Why are they cheap? An actual cool 2019 car with relatively low miles would be more expensive

there are a zillion of them made.

It’s false advertising and they should be sued. In no world does it make sense to subtract gas expense from the purchase price, you’re still spending that money to buy the fricking car.
      > Are these truly any cheaper to maintain than ICE?
Yes they are, basically the only regular maintenance is tires and rarely brakes

      Range: 400 miles* **

** - before turning on AC

& even if you do need a new HV pack, it's ~$12,000 and the replacement has a 4y warranty. Considering how expensive modern engines (especially hybrid) engines are to repair, that isn't that bad... and the $ will only go down.

It is 8 years or 100,000 miles. Which means it should last way past 10 years.

I live in an area that gets really hot, 105+/41C+ and when the real summer hits the EVs are seen less often and are driven slower than a prius when they are on the road.
