"Old Volvos are good cars"

>Drive an 01 V70
>inb4 muh Ford quality, these cars were designed well before they were purchased by Ford.

>DRM'd Radio which disables parking sensors, and steering wheel controls, when switched with a used model, and is only restored when a brand new one is bought from the dealer.
>Removing climate control module sets off the airbag warning light, which can only be disabled by the main dealer.
>Didn't have the key in position II when reconnecting the battery? Oops, you just lost your whole climate control module, which needs it's software reflashed from the dealer again.
>Scratchy brittle plastics, which constantly rattle as you drive along, and snap with little to no effort at all.

All I know is some broke girl I tried banging drove an '89 Volvo econobox thing and it ran great. She was one of those barely functionally moronic girls so I know she didn't keep up with the service well and had crashed it multiple times, but it barely took damage. 340k miles on it and it ran well, she commutes long trips with it. They just don't make em like they used to.

its a 1st year of a new generation of notoriously decreasing quality volvos with lots of issues. this is what you get when you only think of brand loyalty and "they do this best"

      > The famous 850 that raced is a "new volvo" while the 960 that was sold at the same time is an "old volvo"

      Fricking moron
Old volvos: 3 number models and older
New volvos: 1 or 2 letters + 2 numbers models onwards

That said, who gives a frick if you drive an old volvo, ford era volvo or Geely era volvo, they are all good cars, comfy as frick, safe as frick and surprisingly fun to hoon around
be they 4 bangers RWD like the 240, 5 banger turbos like the C30 or 4 bangers Super Turbos + Hybrids like the Polestar 1

The electrics are tempermental. My family had to sell a 400k mile one that worked perfectly but failed emissions because it kept throwing a VVT code, VVT stuff was replaced multiple times, nobody on forums or in specialist shops knew what was going on. IIRC the party line is that the alternator spits out dirty power which over a long enough period of time fries computers.

Shit shop then, dirty power detection and reading a wiring diagram is rookie shit.

I replaced the stereo on mine with a normal 1-DIN Kenwood. Parking sensors worked absolutely fine with no modification, and the steering wheel controls needed a $15 adapter
    >Removing climate control module sets off the airbag warning light, which can only be disabled by the main dealer.
Disconnect the battery before removing the module. Also, any OBD2-reader that is not dogshit will be able to delete an SRS-code.
    >Didn't have the key in position II when reconnecting the battery? Oops, you just lost your whole climate control module, which needs it's software reflashed from the dealer again.
Never heard about this, and didn't have it happen to mine when I had the module out like three times
    >Scratchy brittle plastics, which constantly rattle as you drive along, and snap with little to no effort at all
Ok, so it has plastics from something made in the late 90's/early 00's - like most

      >I replaced the stereo on mine with a normal 1-DIN Kenwood.
You replaced it with an aftermarket head unit. Swap in another Volvo head unit, and you'll lose these features.

      >Also, any OBD2-reader that is not dogshit will be able to delete an SRS-code.
Wrong, an OBD2 reader will not be able to delete the warning. It can only be done via VIDA.

      >Never heard about this, and didn't have it happen to mine when I had the module out like three times
The official procedure on VIDA is to have the key in position II when reconnecting the negative terminal. Plenty of occasions where it has bricked after replacing a battery.
