    >their other claim to fame is major engine issues

I can't think of a car I would want *less* than a Kia. Even having the keyfob in my pocket would be embarrassing. A 4 wheeled humiliation ritual.

Not nearly on the same level as kia. They've lost multiple class action lawsuits for engines in the modern era. The Koreans simply can't make reliable engines.

Just like the self igniting car recalls.
        >2017-2021 Kia Sportage
An engine compartment fire may occur in the area where the Hydraulic
Electronic Control Unit (HECU) is located
        >2008-2009 Kia Sportage
An engine compartment fire originating from the area of the Hydraulic
Electronic Control Unit (HECU) may occur while the vehicle is being driven or
        while parked
        >2011-2013 Kia Sportage
The remedy for the previous recall 17v224 may not have been properly
performed in all cases by Kia dealers. In some cases, the high pressure fuel
pipe may have been damaged, misaligned or improperly torqued during the
engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak
        >2011-2012 Kia Sportage
The oil pan may have been improperly sealed during engine production. As a
result, engine oil may leak from the oil pan. If the vehicle is continued to be
driven with an unrepaired oil leak, damage to the engine can occur, and the
vehicle could stall while in motion. In limited cases, a fire can occur
        2012-2012 KIA Sportage
An engine compartment fire can occur while driving for many reasons and
depending on the severity of the fire, the identification of the cause can be
        untraceable.

These aren't all the recalls or even all the serious recalls. These are just recalls that could result in fire for just the Kia Sportage. One of them was a recall because another fire related recall was done so horribly that it could kill the customers in a fire.

They're ok as far as SUVs go. I quite like the front treatment on that version and they have a stupidly long warranty.
It made my short list when I was last looking for a car.

      >stupidly long warranty.
How come the warranty lasts longer than the car?
Is the warranty useless or do they just not honor it?
