vast majority of truck owners never go offroad

That's for the best. Modern trucks are too big for a lot of good trails. There are trails my tacoma feels very wide on in my area, and some more that you can't take anything but a two door jeep on due to how tight the switch backs are with trees.

          >Modern trucks are too big for a lot of good trails.
Modern trucks are notorious for destroying good trails. Overlander modded ones practically demolish whatever they roll over since there's so much extra weight on them.

Just wait till all the buzzboxes start trying to use them. We're going to have a lot of trail collapsing and just giving way soon.

It has the same or better range than the TRX which is the same price. And with the TRX you have to fill up the tank with 7 dollar gas every 3-4 days which comes out to a second car payment per month. So i guess if you're a knuckledragger who think big truck go fast is good then the cybertruck is the best in the 100k truck class for cost of driving. Except it looks moronic and you can't work on it, and neither can anyone locally.

considering the cybertruck is a regular truck that happens to be able to do offroading, unlike a dedicated offroad truck like a raptor, not bad. as this review says, tesla should tune their trucks before they sell them instead of offloading the testing to customers and then tuning them via software updates.

Actually, this was before the locking differentials were enabled. Now that they are, this video is no longer representative of the Cybertruck's off road performance. Any questions?

      Anonymous

Locking diffs are not needed on a buzzbox. TC software should be smart enough to realize when a wheel is not getting traction and send more power to the other wheels motors. Any argument against this is cope.

        Anonymous

It still uses mechanical differentials on the dual motor version. The only thing the TCS could do is apply the brakes to the spinning wheels but given that it was designed from the beginning to have locking differentials, they probably didn't spend much time on the logic behind it.

      Anonymous

Why are locking diffs on a truck software that can be enabled after the fact like DLC?

        Anonymous

Software has all sorts of fun quirks that can blow it to pieces. Normally they'd be worked out in testing and staging phases of the product build, but Tesla is yoloing it in production and hoping for the best.

Buzzboxes seems to always struggle offroad. They just spin the tires and hope for the best. Doesn't help they are usually on some shitty A/T tires picked for their performance in better mileage than offroad capabilities. The electric motor has the ability to be the best offroad drivetrain out there but it's held back by nannytronics and battery shortfalls.

Tesla really was incredibly moronic to release this without the locking diffs. They had to know shit like this would be made and it would get a reputation for being shit. Fisker ocean did the same thing, rushed it out of the door half baked and it got a bad reputation and completely killed their company. Tesla is just lucky they had some hype to carry them through it but it's still an unforced error.

      >They had to know shit like this would be made and it would get a reputation for being shit
No, they didn't "have to know". Chances are the decision was made by some bean-counter working under Elon, and none of the engineers gave a frick because why would they?

You can't treat a company as though they were a single, rational, human being. In general, most companies are run by morons, and their orders are carried out by actual professionals who don't get paid enough to give a frick how stupid it is.
