      >Buy a vehicle that makes you dependent on ongoing subsidies, and that pays much lower road use fees in a less predictable way
This costs the Government money and creates uncertainty for funding the roads with a lot of money having to be diverted to roads from the general fund.

      Alternately
      >Buy a vehicle that allows you to easily drive on any source of energy, including making your own, and which offers a much higher and predictable amount or road use funding
This provides a number of benefits to the Government like certainty in road funding as well as the owner in lower operating costs, which is why there is a tax incentive to buy electric vehicles that are Made In America.

Even with the USA becoming the #1 in the world for producing gasoline thanks to Biden, after a disastrous collapse due to previous mismanagement, it is still important to shift away from gasoline and towards domestically produced vehicles which are not entirely dependent on gasoline.
Just as the Nordic countries have shown, it is important to in rough terms Not Get High on our Own Supply. Using less gasoline makes it easier to fill the Strategic Reserve, makes drains on the reserve when supply is disrupted less severe, and enables revenue from exports.

        >funding the roads with a lot of money having to be diverted to roads from the general fund.
That's already the case. The US has too low gas taxes to pay for the roads so roads in Republican states are subsidized by places like California.

So far I really like this car, honestly the only thing I hate about it is the CEO is a fricking douche nozzle. They really need to replace him before this company starts going to shit.

Cybertruck is literally rusting and FSD still DOESN'T work and overpriced as frick. You're literally paying 12k to be a fricking beta tester. The cars that matter to them the 3 and Y are still the same fricking cars 3 years ago. Zero improvements while they let Rivian catch up, except Rivian isn't being run by a douche and probably has better customer service which is garbage at Tesla.

      Laughably wrong.
The 7,500 credit got removed from the model 3 and a lot of the Y models got downgraded to the 3,750 half credit.
Meanwhile Toyota’s fake EV Hybrid Corolla gets the full 7,500 credit.

So now it’s Toyota that are the frauds running on the government’s handouts.

Seeing what the electric company did to my power bill this year, I feel like I'd be at the disadvantage of only one power company, vs many different gas stations. I can easily see the power company being evil and raising rates so that charging is much more expensive per mile than gasoline.

      Anonymous

      >I can easily see the power company being evil and raising rates so that charging is much more expensive per mile than gasoline.
With gasoline at $3.50 a gallon that is about $.12 to $.14 a mile. For a typical 3 or 4 mile a kWh EV to be more expensive than that the cost of electricity would need to be over $.40 a kWh off-peak. If that happens the cost of gasoline would also rise to about $5.90 a gallon unless there were increases in the Government subsidies to help gas stations keep their lights on.

      At $5.90 a gallon vs $.40 a kWh driving a 3 or 4 mile a kWh EV is still a lot cheaper.
If power companies make grid electricity too expensive, they risk making generating your own electricity more attractive.
