if we drive up demand for new cars, then demand for used cars goes down + the supply of used cars goes up
it's a win-win scenario for us shitbox enjoyers

High mileage, late model last gen is the secret if you're not a complete wrenchlet. I'll gladly take a 150k 2020 car over an 80k 2008 one.
      >almost always 100% highway mileage
      >already fully depreciated so you'll sell it back for close to what you bought it for
      >good parts availability because it's newer
      >still get good mpg and safety features
You literally cannot lose so long as you have an OBD scanner and some basic tools.

Plus, by 150k whatever factory frickups might have existed have already been taken care of by the previous owner on their time and at their expense if they weren't covered under warranty or recall.

True, I forgot to touch on rust as well. Far less examples of rust on newer vehicles, even if you live in the rust belt like I do.

This man gets it you see so many overpay for a 90,000 mile Honda from 15 plus years ago, and then complain thay life sucks because the steering rack is blown out from age, or other needs some old csr nonsense that they ALL have even if its a reliable company.

  3. 2 months ago

How is this inaccurate? Just because the alternative ALSO sucks, which is financing an overpriced, depreciating asset, does not mean that willingly accepting the headache of someone else's problems is any better

Used cars are used and they are being sold for a reason. You might have the skills and knowledge to work on your own car, which offsets some of the costs, but not everyone does. Even if they did, they don't necessarily have the money or resources to deal with it anyway

    >Drive to work
    >Shitbox breaks down
    >Call mr. Shekelberg to tell him I'll be late
    >Get towed (hope you have AAA)
    >Uber to work (more$$$)
    >Shekelberg is mad that I am late
    >Tell him I need tomorrow off to fix the car
    >Oyveymyprofits.jpg
    >Can't get off work during the week
    >Blow more money on Ubers
    >Have to troubleshoot problem on weekend
    >Order parts
    >They arrive on Monday
    >Out of a car for 2 weeks

Or you buy something new that reasonably shouldn't shit the bed during normal operation because it hasn't been beat to frick by its previous owner(s)

some people also dump a few grand into their econobox and suddenly think it's a money pit and ditch it. I know several people who have done that, all of which thought I was insane for spending a few grand on rebuilding my suspension instead of just dumping the fricker and buying a new car. people have an odd mentality when it comes to cost/benefit analysis and whatever term you'd use to describe someone who just bails on something because they had to spend some money on fixing it

Drove an old civic for 5 years. It burned oil big frickin whoop. You top it up. K20 has a timing chain and because im not a moron i bought one with low mileage so clutch and other points were not a concern. Did have some minor shit with the air/ac that i fixed, as well as brakes over the course of ownership(wear item). Also did the alternator towards the end of the ownership experience. nothing left me stranded on the side of the road but the alternator almost did. Now have a 2020 vehicle cause im no longer a poorgay. Over all good experience and way cheaper than shelling out for a newer car

Based corolla driver, what's absolutely absurd is that a lot of people aren't even breaking down in their used shitboxes, their just being normalgays who don't want to pay to maintain anything that is leaking or needs replacement to keep the car going for a really long time, it's literally people wanting to pay well over $500 a month or more plus full coverage insurance and expensive registration every year for the rest of their lives, so that they don't have to spend the $1400 strut replacement every 15+ years or so

These people almost deserve to struggle and not make it, because not only are they poorgays, but their also trying to look down upon other poorgays.

My truck broke the other day. Got it towed to my house with my auto club for free. Installed a new ignition control module the next day (in stock $120) drove it to pick my daughter up. The fuel pump failed last year but she probably won't break for a year or 2 now that the troublesome parts are new.
