I wasted 3800 of my own money to buy GM garbage off a lemon lot in 2010. I could've bought a used corolla for what i paid honestly

      >put in a $3000 stereo system that sounded great and would set off bank alarms.

      >gutless, noisy 4.3L V6
      >bouncy

I didn't even understand at the time why I didn't like it. I almost replaced it with a Grand Cherokee for a little more up-market styling and a V8, but I would've hated that as well.
I got a Grand Prix instead which was MUCH better, but it still wasn't until I drove a 3-series that I understood what "great" meant.

That v6 is for torque, not horsepower

          Anonymous

Has only 13% more torque than a NA 3800 and the same horsepower. Half a liter for 30lb-ft is terrible.
They should've stuck a supercharged 3800 in there.

            Anonymous

            that's exactly 12% larger than a 3800, you're a complete fricking moron

13.4%, and a larger engine usually produces more torque per cc.
            Gimped motor that couldn't breathe.

you do realize the 229/4.3 was gm's only good v6 until the series 2 in 1995, are you expecting them to time travel to go put the better engine in a 1988 truck?

            Anonymous

no, larger engines are less efficient and its very difficult to get them to scale 100%, that's why we dont have big blocks anymore. the 4.3 making more torque relative to its size difference actually proves its more efficient at making torque

            Anonymous

Large gas engine are less efficient at partial power due to pumping losses. They're more efficient at full power due to the square cube law. Large means less friction per unit volume. There's a reason anything requiring efficient power uses a big, low-RPM turbodiesel.

I always see the positive in each vehicle, so I don't hate it.
If anything I hate the regulations that caused restrictions on design.

Never understood people who get the “bad” 7.3s. I mean they must exist. But my family has had 2. And by family I mean my mom who is completely ignorant to maintaining vehicles, just needs a horse trailer pulled. the 7.3 is literally perfect for her because we have never had a single issue with either truck. Would still have the first one but it got wrecked. I just change the one every once in a while that everything else refuses to break. Really really well built trucks. They were and are super duties not OBS though. She’s put maybe 100,000 miles on the current 7.3, it’s a 6 speed 4WD and we could sell it for 8,000$-10,000$ more than what we paid looking at the market for them now lol.

I've owned a lot of piece of shit cars, but this one took the cake. Bought for $340. Never registered it or changed the oil. Obnoxiously slow with the automatic transmission. It was infested with spiders. They'd come crawling out the dash when driving down the freeway. It had California plates, but I don't live in California, so everyone hated me. Sold it for $660 to a young mexican man after a half year of ownership. He said he planned to put "rims" on it.

I have one as a project car, for what people say about it, I'm pleasantly surprised about how easy it is to work on it. The only annoying part so far was the front suspension, where you can really tell they shoehorned that into a pre-existing chassis

Piece of shit. Everything on it was expensive. I was chasing my tail trying to figure out why it would randomly fricking pull on the highway after replacing almost all of the suspension components (protip: apparently subframe cracking failure was common for this model, yet no mechanics or "euro specialists" brought it up or even checked).
I think one day I started it up and the IACV was failing. Junked it then and there for $1000.

2015 Subaru Impreza. I paid brand new off the lot which I regret as I always got used before that.
Totally reliable, dont get me wrong. It was just.. boring. All my older used cars were just much more enjoyable to drive. I didnt give a shit if a person hit me, I wasnt worried about it getting totaled. Then while driving it was just so fricking boring and I would be driving it for decade if not longer since I keep cars until they died with repairs costing far more than it's replacement. Even if DIY.
Got a second used beater van, sold the Subaru.
Would I get a used Subaru? Sure, maybe the Outback while it was still a wagon and not a SUV. Otherwise, I will never, ever, buy a new car from the lot.
See pic, the Cat and Mitsubishi look fun. As long as I keep them working for 2 years, they are perfect.
