It's over. All those companies failed and got bought up by israeli royalty. The future will only have 4-5 manufacturers that each specialize in one type of vehicle.

Investment capital firm is trying to corner the market by owning as many car companies as possible after seeing ze Germans do it with VAG. Their problem is they keep buying the worst possible car brands/makers and double down on what makes them the worst. Cut quality, stop production of the good models, and do whatever the opposite of market research tells them.

    >Abarth
A tuning company that stopped doing anything interesting in the 90s. Cool logo, nobody but the deepest boomer car nerds know much about them.
    >Alfa Romeo
Failed US re-entry because their cars are laughably overpriced, shitty quality, but they're pretty because an italian designed it.
    >chrysler
They make minivans and shitty sedans for people with credit scores below 600. Thats a horrific brand reputation on top of some of the worst quality standards on the planet.
    >citroen
Stopped making cool shit in the 90s, now they make french commuter cars for people who dont' care about cars.
    >dodge
synonym for avoid. The discontinued their fun cars, and now make corner cutting shitboxes for npcs.
    >DS automobiles
    Never heard of em
    >fiat
synonym for fake. Fiat had to pull out because they made tiny shitboxes nobody liked and were horrible for quality. You basically cannot give away a fiat today.
    >Jeep
Legacy brand yuppie white girls and boomers love. Plagued with quality issues combined with really high MSRP prices new, but they hold their value really well because that that form factor there are 3 total vehicles sold: jeep, bronco, and 4runner
    >Lancia
Stopped making cool shit in the 80s. Not sold in the US, unheard of by most people outside of europe.
    >Maserati
Pretty italian cars bought for housewives in Malibu. Known for bad quality, stupidly expensive repairs, and makinga nice sound.
    >opel
Rebadged GM shitboxes in the eurozone. Who cares about this brand at all? No excitement.
    >Peugeot
    French shitboxes. See above.
    >Ram
Makes low quality pickup trucks and pays for reviewer accolades. Best initial quality? The frick kind of award is that?
    >vauxhall
GM parts bin to make cool utes in australia only. Because frick you thats why. Also shitboxes
    >leasys free2move
Some more shit nobody has ever heard of but a suit at corporate office thought they'd be viable brands to shuffle money around a balance sheet while lowering quality whenever possible.

Don't they also release rebranded Opels in the UK? The bongs are so special that they need their own special car brands.

I do. Opel was overly based. GT (picrelated) and Opel was pioneered to create a KINO RWD platform that led to the Omega Lotus, Holden Commodore, and more. GM just killed it with moronic management.

I actually want an Opel GT. Baby corvette everyone says are pretty great and a good condition one is under $15,000 still. But again, when you have to point at a car from the 70s to say how good a brand is, thats just laughable.
        >hey remember when they did that 1 cool thing 55 years ago? I 'member!

Opel is still highly regarded in Europe.

Opel was trynig SO hard in the late 80s to keep a real premium car on the market, the Vectra was so shit it killed the entire brand. Combine that with GM plastic interior and autoboxes that strip gears at 60k it died a dozen deaths before it became rebadged Peugeots

          Anonymous

Funnily enough, they started turning a profit after splitting from GM.
Maybe it's just because the French could source cheaper parts for the kind of car that sells in Europe, but I don't think GM had any idea what they were doing in that market.

It's well-known that GM cooked the books with Opel for decades, purposely offloading all their American losses and debts onto them for tax writeoff purposes. Even charging Opel 'royalties' for using vehicle platforms that Opel themselves designed and engineered. Hence the surprise profit 5 minutes after joining PSA. In reality, Opel kept GM afloat for a long time in many ways.

yeah, Opel Calibra was a really nice car at that time, btw.

Vauxhall is the UK Opel brand, they used Holden for that in Australia.
Orginally Vauxhall and Opel made "companion models" for Britain and Europe respectively, but since the 80s Vauxhalls were all just Opels but RHD and usually better specced for the same trim.

        >Vauxhall is the UK Opel brand, they used Holden for that in Australia.
Thanks for the correction, as I was looking at vauxhaul, opel, and thinking of holden, i thought they were all the same regardless and all owned by other car companies but couldn't remember because they're simply not in the US. Still, is there a single exciting model they make that people rush to the dealership to buy right away?

The Corsa VXR/Astra GTC hot hatches of the late 2000s/early 2010s sold VERY well and largely salaved the Vauxhall brand after it was fricking anhillated in the late 90s
The VXR models however have a reputation of being owned by 25 year olds with 15 year old gfs

Correct, Vauxhall became Opel UK in the early 80s and their model lines were 99% identical ever since. They did diverge for their sports cars in the late 2000s - Opel/LHD Europe got a rebadged Saturn Sky, while Vauxhall/RHD Britain got a rebadged HSV Clubsport R8

They don't know what to do with any of their brands, they could cover every single niche from basic shitboxes to luxury cars, but they can't, none of the cars they released are better than the ones they replaced, it's clear that they thought EVs would take off and they could just rebadge the same EVs between all the brands, but that's not what's happening

This move would kill all other brands as they bring no added value being badge engineered shit currently.

Jeeps are popular in China and Ram is doing surprisingly well in Australia and parts of Europe since no one else wants to sell proper trucks there.

Australia is in the process of resizing a lot of parking spots because of the popularity of large American SUV/trucks.
Even back in the days of the Commodore and Falcon they were never wide like American trucks just super long
