Literally this. The only people who think it's hard are automaticlets who get triggered by how cool it looks to drive a manual.

        no one thinks that

        99% agree

I will never understand the Americans and their fetish for manual transmissions.
Here, being able to drive a manual car translates to being able to drive a car at all. Americans are literally grandstanding on a "skill" that's as basic as wiping your own ass after shitting. Then again, this, too, seems to separate the "patrician" Americans from the rest.
tl;dr: Everytime you Americans gatekeep on manual shifting, your country shows your (shit-smeared) ass to the rest of the world, and we have become tired of laughing about you clowns.

If you grow up in a land locked desert, someone who can swim is going to be seen as "more skilled" than the average person, because they went out of their way to learn it when they didn't have to.

They're not hard. They're just inferior to modern 8 or 10 speed automatics. With the exception CVTs which are universally shit, automatics aren't they garbage they used to be and the fun of driving a manual is often more of a nuisance than it is enjoyable.

Only inferior in raw track performance c**t. I for one couldn't imagine sacrificing the thrill of manual to lap the ring 1 second faster

imagine not nailing the average speed of stop-start traffic and just coasting along

American cars traditionally had a lot of power, rwd, terrible suspension, and Americans tend to spend hours commuting in heavy traffic everyday.

So going from your super gomfy land yacht to some big old heavy pickup
or underpowered 4spd shitbox like a vw bug or a chevy vega which also had manual windows and various mechanical problems was a really difficult and pointless thing aside from the oil crisis. People who could figure out how to drive manual didn't want to because it would involve driving a dangerous and shitty car.

European cars only have manuals because you were too poor to experience an explosion of them when they became a standard luxury in America. Same with household air conditioning.

why do americans get on about having air condition, while europe does not?
If i lived in a swamp close to the equator, of course i`ll install one
I, meanwhile, live closer to the artic circle, so i will install a fricking oven instead and not belittle strangers on the internet about it

still too hard for americans. they think cars more like those bumper cars that you find in amusement parks. manual shifting makes you more focused. all pro truckers use manuals.

In the U.S. all new tractor trailers and straight trucks in the last few years have been automatics.

Automatics are superior in almost every singe regard, towing, fuel economy, power delivery 0-60, offroading/rock crawling, so on an so forth. The only purpose they have now is novelty/nostalgia.

Motorcycles may be the only exception due to the lack of any automatics to compare to in the first place.

Auto= higher initial price, higher cost of repairs
Manual= cheaper to run in the long term

Is this what the average person imagines when he thinks of a manual transmission?
