why dont europeans make a full size, body on frame truck? The japs did it and japan is more densely populated than europe, so theres no excuse for europeans to also make one, even if just for the american market

Gas is $10/gallon, taxes based on engine size and emissions. Govt altready takes ~55% of my pay in taxes (+25,5% VAT) so I really couldn't afford one.

Japanese full sized and midsized trucks are designed and manufactured in the US or Mexico. Tundras are more American-made than F-150s are at this point.

  3. 3 weeks ago

The Titan and Tundra were designed in the US and never sold in Japan. They likely see no point in even trying to enter the market because many full size truck buyers instantly dismiss anything that isn't a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy no matter how good it actually is. See the Titan, they were pretty solid but nobody bought one anyway and now it's discontinued.

      >See the Titan, they were pretty solid
Weren't they known for sucking catalytic converter parts up into the engine requiring an engine replacement?

And the Tundra sells about as fast as the dealerships can get them, so jap trucks sell fine, people just don't trust Nissan anymore.

even adjusted for price, gas, practicality, etc. the car culture/fashion is just different in europe, a pickup truck is just not something people think of when they want a family car, if you want something big, showoffy and practical you get a big suv - a truck just wouldn't even occur to people as an option, normal families buying them is a foreign concept most people who haven't been to America don't even know exists anywhere
and for professionals who need to move stuff a van is generally more practical than a pickup since it has more cargo space and is enclosed for protection against the elements and thieves
of course farmers etc. still like them and do buy them (but even then in much smaller numbers than in America) but when you've eliminated the truck-as-a-family-car market what's left isn't a very large market and the European makes aren't losing out by much by giving up the domestic market to the americans and japanese
    >even if just for the american market
not saying it's impossible but Americans are patriotic about their trucks, much more so than about their cars - fighting ford, gm and chrysler on their home turf wouldn't be easy especially since these wouldn't sell in the home market so doing well in America would make or break the product line

Farmers usually use tractors. And families generally have station wagons.

Yes. Tractors are made for more heavy duties, are more reliable and have less amount of computer modules than most cars & pickup trucks. Tractors more often dont have ablue/delfluid systems.

No market for it? It's not really viable as a daily driver for larpers due streets in most euro cities not being large enough and real tradies/farmers just drive vans because they're cheaper. Also, as others have said, none of the Japanese BoF shit is actually made or sold in Japan (except the land cruiser and hilux).

Generally speaking they don't make as much sense as a van here, due to how we regulate stuff based on weight, emissions and such

Something like has a more spacious cab, a higher payload, larger load surface, easier to load pallets on, more configurable. Shared platforms also help keep R&D-costs down

Not really europoor. Pickups mog a lot of vehicles due to how cheap and modded they can become for most jobs. If you really want a dump bed then go for it. You are still gonna have a more comfortable, powerful, and reliable vehicle in the end compared to a transit.

            >In addition to designing seating for yachts, airplanes and helicopters, Poltrona Frau has designed leather interiors for automobiles since 1986, when Lancia asked the company to design and manufacture interiors for their new version 8.32 Thema model. Poltrona Frau has since made interiors from automotive companies ranging from Alfa Romeo, Audi, Bugatti, Lancia, Ferrari and Maserati to Mini, Fiat, Infiniti, Jaguar and Chrysler.
            >In 2002 the company's leathersmiths created red leather seating and pillions for a special edition of the California model of noted Italian motorcycle manufacturer Moto Guzzi, in celebration of the company's 80th anniversary.
So basically if you want good interiors in America you buy a 300C and option it in Poltrona Frau "Foligno" leather. You have two choices, black or mocaccino.

        >Also not full size
        What I really gather...
Is that "full size" means a net capacity of what... 5 tons? 6? 7?

Meanwhile Mercedes and Ivenco and quite a few other offer what is essentially 4-5ton trucks, but the reudced frame is only 2 tons, meaning 1,5 tons of cargo capacity.
        Why?
Because B-class license goes up to 3,5 tons.
Light trucks(C1) opens up to twice the amount of stricter inspections for non commercial use, on top of what a ducking horrid mess it is to upgrade your drivers license outside of the Baltic and Slavic states.

    1) Japs did them specifically for US market
    2) Gas is expensive, no reason to haul around 3 tons of fat for your daily driving. When you need a work vehicle you get into pic related, which is way larger than any full sized murican trugg, and at the end of the day you come back to your reasonable personal car. And if you need really extreme truck activities you get an Unimog that mogs as the name implies everything the US ever made.
