Does something like this exist for headlights?

I have a business need to drive without headlights on. I currently accomplish this on unlit streets by using some gen1 night vision goggles on a headmount. These can see in 940nm, which is very dim and nearly invisible to the human eye. Are there headlight bulbs made to emit 940nm so I don't have to hold a flashlight out the window while working?

Make a mount. You can probably have it printed and mailed to you if you don't already own and printer for some reason

It would be more convenient though if I could convert to ir bulbs in the headlights

Do you never have any need to use the normal headlights? Seems like it would be much better to have the IR lights as a separate auxiliary unit so you still retain the ability to see and be seen with regular eyeballs if ever the need arises. Infrared light bars and pods are available from several manufacturers, just search.

Some.more background. The goggle can see in low light without an infrared flashlight, but it's much more clear with an infrared light source. I almost crashed last night in a bad neighborhood and that's why I am looking into other options

Yes, Mexican drug runners use NVGs with IR headlights.

Fine, if you really have to know. I am a photographer and typically specialize in wildlife photography and do other freelance work on the side. A lot of work has been drying up lately because of covid/the economy so I decided to look into other ways to make money in photography. Answered a posting from a local government looking for a photographer. The job pays really well, time and expenses, including gas, covered and basically I am documenting the extent of public drug use and high risk behaviors (read: public sex) in the city's poorer district. Its part of a larger initiative to combat the spread of STDs and drug use among the homeless and poor. I drive around at night when these behaviors typically occur and grab photos when I find it, which unfortunately is all the time. At first, I was using my headlights (because no fricking way am I getting out of the car), but, as you would imagine, people engaged in public sex or drug use tend to flee when under lights, so I talked to my friend who hunts and borrowed his NVG and have been using similar tech on my camera to capture the images. Has been working well so far but its hard to balance the light and the camera while filming these. I am paid partly by number of incidents photographed, so more efficiency means more money for me.

Redneck poacher here. There's very little chance of getting caught spotlighting deer and the equipment is the opposite of what op is asking for, hence the word spotlighting. We go out in a pickup drink beer and go to known deer crossings with a crossbow and a really bright spotlight like what cops use. Spot the deer, throw the light on, shoot deer, load up and get out of dodge. This is near valley forge where deer are protected.

I don't "post up", I drive to vantage points, capture the photos of the high risk behavior if there is any, then leave. Doing all this without headlights and quickly means that people shooting up or fornicating rarely notice me until I already have the photos and am moving again.

I had a modified hmmwv with an IR spotlight when I was a grader for the army at NTC. Based on that experience where I was offloading at 40mph on dog shit terrain under nvgs, I recommend a settup like
taking care to not have the beam reflect off of your hood otherwise you'll blind the shit out of yourself.
If you plan on driving under nvg ensure you've one that fully casts on the ground in front of you then out and I recommend a second one on top for a different angle- maybe I'm just spastic because of the whole offroading I did, but your light will throw massive shadows (under nvg) while you're driving, the last thing you want is to not see some homeless guy laying in the street because of the ir shadow. It sounds like you're doing mostly vantage point stuff though, similar to what we'd call an observation post. In that case I'd look at specific hunting spot lights because they'll give you the best throw of light.

      Best of luck nerd.
