The most you'll be doing is replacing oil seals, the occasional sensor, and a good amount of suspension bushings. its a 200k mile cruiser

Check the front lower ball joints. If they're bad you need to replace the whole lower arm and it's not a cheap job.

byeah it is. rockauto, some jackstands and a $60 alignment?! sheeeesh rolling like a kang now

        the arms are $600-800 each.

Yeah lexus double wishbone gets expensive. Must not be many arms left, just looked at the pathetic slim pickings online. If OP could help it he could just push the old bushings out but considering its his first car he's probably got no press. I say this saving about $2500 on my entire rear subframe just buying the bushings, not the arms.

            You're the homosexual. Fricking moron,

the front lower ball is not serviceable the whole arm must be replaced.

Rose joints aren't supposed to support weight in that direction they'd flog out in no time and only a moron would fit those arms to a road car.
Rose joints wear out quickly enough even when you're using them properly.

how am i a homosexual for replacing the same bushing with an identical bushing instead of being charged $700 for what is effectively JUST the aluminum casting of the suspension bit, the same suspension arm that is PRISTINE sans its bushings, frickers who toss out entire arms cause they don't have a press are so wasteful... it's insane, we already have slim pickings dumbass.

            >how am i a homosexual for replacing the same bushing with an identical bushing
It's not the same. OEM arms have a ball joint the cheapo aftermarket ones have a rose joint which are fine for track cars but not for the road. There's a good reasons OEM's don't use them.

            [...]
            >the front lower ball is not serviceable the whole arm must be replaced.
first result on google shows bushings for the lower front control arm, and these are more rigid than the OE.

track cars take 10 times the abuse of a daily driver, if it can hold up to track abuse, it will do fine with regular driving, you're a fricking dumbass

Are you 12 years old? Rose joints in track cars can need replacement in as little as a few hundred miles. Using them for the front lower ball is especially dumb since you're replacing a joint with strong support on 3 axes with a joint that only has 2 supported axes.

Because you will have a lot of unexpected/long repairs, and will not be able to rely on this car. It is not a problem for a weekend/second car, but for the only car, it may be a dealbreaker if you NEED transportation.

Ive been riding the bus to work, Im not desperate for transportation. Also this high mileage one would leave me about $4k to put into repairs right off the bat if needed, just trying to figure out how much work would need to be done to get it to a very reliable state. Im finding a mechanic to do an inspection soon

            >Also this high mileage one would leave me about $4k to put into repairs right off the bat if needed
that's more than enough to take care of it's most immediate issues

So if you are going to use it as a weekend/leisure car, it is okay.
            > Im finding a mechanic to do an inspection soon
It will help you fix the most critical issues, but it will not make your car brand new. If car price is 10% of MRSP, there are reasons.

I keep being told that 200k is just being broken in on Toyotas. I never see any Toyotas for sale with more. Because they always die shortly afterwards.
