18 y/o who lives in Florida. I know truckers work long hours but my family wouldn't mind me being gone from home for long periods of time and I don't have a spouse/gf or anything like that. I'm not gonna lie though I'm really moronic and don't learn that fast so that's a definitely a disadvantage. Is it even worth being a truck driver?

If you’re fat or aspiring to be fat and literally have nothing else going on go ahead
>I'm not gonna lie though I'm really moronic and don't learn that fast
Usually I would say to not consider trucking unless you have a couple felonies which keep you from obtaining normal work, but if you literally have a learning disability then trucking might be a good fit for you.
Go ahead. I'm 41 years old now and I started trucking at 25. It's good work if you have the patience to drive cross country. Made enough money to buy my own Mack at the age of 30. Also don't be scared of the "truckers get fat" meme. Just don't gorge on food like a complete fatass, routinely exercise and you'll be okay.
>Also don't be scared of the "truckers get fat" meme.
You must be joking
There are thin truckers out there and you may be one of them but understand that sitting for 10 hours a day with no chance to get up and stretch ever hour or so will make about 60% of the population fat as frick.
Fat truckers are not a meme you dipshit, just pull into any TA in the country and look around
buddy do you seriously think the average DAner doesnt sit for longer than 10 hours a day?
it all depends on diet.
reevaluate what you're even mad at here, your argument is so insanely silly.
The numbers of obeast drivers do not lie anon, there is no profession in the world where the workers are that fat
what is your point anymore
Statistically, Sumos would have a greater percentage of fat workers.
>Statistically, Sumos would have a greater percentage of fat workers
They’re actual athletes with a purpose behind the weight and they actually eat good food meanwhile you’re sitting in your truck eating gas station churros and drinking gatorade
I'm not a truck driver.
>Sumo
>Fat
They're in better shape then most people and still weigh over 300lbs
Problem is the lack of exercise, if you let yourself get carried away with all the shit you eat then that's you're own fault. You stupid ass.
I was my thinnest when I trucked. I work at UPS now, walking who knows how many miles, picking up big ass boxes all day in the sun, sweating my dick and balls off, and I still weigh 20lbs more than when I was a steering wheel holder.
Thank you man
look at the marriage / divorce rates for trucker and ask yourself if thats a lifestyle you want
that shit is not conducive to somebody who wants a normal family structure and social life
No problem dude just look more into it, get a CDL and you'll be on your way.
>routinely exercise
The problem is there is no routine. You’ll just go whenever you can and eventually after making zero progress because of lack of consistency, good diet and good sleep you’re just going to say one day “what’s the point”
I would just eat my lunch while I drove and used my 30 min break to workout during the day, its really not that hard to stay in shape on the road.
most boring job on the planet, one of the first ones to be replaced by robots. if you are White, the industry is trying to get you to deal with $10/hr wages or you will be replaced by some shit skin
stay in school, kid. or go in the military, few years in the chair force won't get you in any danger but it will pay off
>t. seething artist
>one of the first ones to be replaced by robots.
I can guarantee you this will happen, but not in the next 60 years MINIMUM.
Major companies can't even make self driving cars.
I mean if you already have no life and like gayming and shit then it's basically like "vanlyfing" but getting paid to do it.
>it's basically like "vanlyfing" but getting paid to do it.
This is so far from the truth
I do both and they are not similar at all but they do go very well together
Why rent or own a home if you are never there?
>implying theres only cross country truck drivers
shiggy
18 is too young for most Class A jobs. Most want 21 minimum. Also Florida sucks for OTR trucking, much easier if you’re in the midwest. Florida has lots of freight come in, not much going out, so it’s hard to get home time or you lose some pay when you do.
Get your CDL in Florida because they just let any moron drive it's like trying to avoid a 10 ton Altima it's not fun there
40 ton*
And yea there’s definitely some shady shit, sooo many Cubans driving who can’t speak a word of English. But just west of Miami there’s a whole Cuban mafia that runs tons of trucking around Hialeah and Medley,
it's ok, but you're way too young to pursue this type of career. nobdy will want you if you're under 21, and getting a cdl and becoming a truck driver is usually done by frick ups in their late 20's or early 30's anyways. otr is a TERRIBLE job. starting out as a newbie, you will unironically get paid less than fast food workers, and you WILL get fat. could make good money if you become an owner operator, but there is obviously a lot of risks with that. local is the best option with decent pay and hours.
>mfw late 20s considering it
If you can, I shill the trade schools. Not as an automotive tech, but you have a better shot at a good career if you can get into a local electrician or plumber or HVAC union.
I'm not interested in a career
If I just want to learn how to drive a semi and backup large trailers accurately, what would be the best way to go about it? I don't want to play simulators or get a job trucking, I just want to drive an actual semi.
no
bro, please
Go work at a warehouse tor 6mos, our warehouse dudes shuffle trailers around the yard with no CDL.
I just started literally a few days ago. I made 580$ in 2 days worth of work. It's pretty easy tbh. I don't know what you want or what your goals are but once you get some experience you can always get a local truck driving job and be home everyday.
im a long haul trucker and I earn more than all of the liberal arts majors itt shilling against it
literally dropped out of HS and now make 130k a year after taxes
>130k a year after taxes
false
You dont even know what that term means
I’m not that anon ur @ing but this is last years YTD 4 me.
And this is my truck. I have 2 trailers. The step is gonna be listed soon for $50,000 as I have switched to conestoga trucking
nice rig bro
how long you been driving?
Don’t ask questions you’re not ready to hear the answer to.
Sounds like somebody who has never been out of the state. Grass is always greener… until you see that state income tax witholding and every other bullshit fee and regulation most Blue states nickel and dime you on so they can give fat gov’t contracts to their brother in-law.
Then go for it. Never hurts to have the CDL as an extra skill to toss on your resume in the future.
cope
yeah, they've been talking about self driving semis for literally decades
not gonna happen imo, trucks are too big to trust on their own
In Australia truck drivers earn a lot of money and it's a very comfy job. There is a huge shortage of truck drivers. If you are willing to get up at 4am and work till lunch as a garbage truck driver you can easily make 120k.
Is $120k meant to be a lot in Australia? That's not really all that much in the US anymore.
Is hot shot trucking based/profitable or cringe/unprofitable?
Hot shot is based, you'll make like 1500-2k a week and be home alot
>and be home alot
false
hot shot is a dedicated lane right?
No, hot shot dudes are often the dudes with the 3500 pickup and a 5th wheel flatbed trailer and you run random half size loads around, often it’s more of a regional thing so you’re home at night.
The wife’s father in law got a CDL and tried to do that shit recently, got his Dodge 3500 and a Big Tex trailer. I don’t know the full story but something fell through with whoever he was supposed to be running loads for and he got kind of fricked stuck with truck and trailer payments and no loads. I don’t even want to ask because I think he’s in the process of trying to get out of the loans and he’s sort of ashamed.
I guess the lesson is you should drive for a company first and make some good business connections before you buy the damn trailer.
Yeah that fricking sucks lol
I drive long haul lease through a company and make good money
Although my truck just shit the fricking bed and am gonna be down for a week or two so that sucks
Hope it works out for your father in law
Yea I gotta dig to the bottom of it. Like I said, I think he’s kind of embarassed. He used to own his own truck and route delivering medical supplies in Venezuela before everything went to hell over there, and he was stoked when he got his CDL and then got his truck and trailer and something fell through with whoever he planned to run routes for. But this is South Florida so I have no idea what type of shady Cuban hot shot company he got involved with, now he’s trying to figure out whether to do bankruptcy stuff, the bank took the truck and trailer back.
i hope it works out for him
he should've looked into other brokers before letting it sink tbh, sounds like he got scammed
:/
Wassup you Florida sugar water sandy ass crack fricking Black person
>The wife’s father in law
WHAT?
Is that like my wifes son? I cant even
>florida
Move bro. Florida is the worst state in the union
>but muh based laws
It's not fricking worth it. God it's so fricking awful
if a median wage of 50k sounds great sure.
>inb4 I make 300k a year driving trucks
nobody believes you, or nobody cares if you're working 120 hours a week.
Cope
If you're on rate and biweekly that is 50k a year
If that's what you paid yourself for a 4.5 day $7000 job you're robbing your own business.
That's for 5 days of work, cuck
Keep coping though it's hilarious
dont do it the OP
its an trap
Trucking will rob your life and there will be NO SEX thats not paid for in cash up front
Find a local trucking job where you Can go home every night. You’ll be much happier.
Ive been otr for 3 months. Shit kinda blows.
Yea for like 5 years or whatever. Make a lot of money and save it. Buy a house hood luck anon
>hood luck
