So I just opened up my shop about 2 months ago. I’m wanting to live stream the day to day bs, but I wasn’t quite too sure which route to go with it. Just not really sure the best type of camera to use, or to either to a head cam, chest cam etc, if anyones done anything like this any help is appreciated

Just get a decent go-pro and one of those smol tripods that you can hold in your hand, how much you pay monthly for shop rent? Just curious because my pipe dream is also having a shop. What kind of bullshit do you encounter?
Sorry didn’t see this one!
But 2000 month, but that’s with utilities included, so I can run that heater all winter lmao!
I do sublet for dealerships, they send me their used cars and I rapid recon them. I give them a full list of shit, typical list is 20 hr labor, and I repair everything, certain cars get gps installed and sent on their way. But being in the rust belt, makes this job awful, and also fun to watch the different type of tricks there is to wrenching in this awful place
lol why would anyone want to watch some dumbo servicing lame shitboxes alone in a rape dungeon
Shop cam, small tripod with a gopro, and a head-mounted gopro. There's surely a wireless solution you can use to stream their raw video to your PC.
There are 459 people watching ducks on one twitch channel right now.
Oh true true, any recommendations to either twitch, or YouTube? Could I do both from the same cam?
You think GoPro would do just fine?
You can do both. You're sending the cam feeds to a computer and then using software to compile them into a single stream (that you can set up to change camera views with on the fly) that you are then sending to some streaming website. If you send it to two different sites it'll take up twice the upload bandwidth but it's certainly doable (though it will split the chat which some don't like).
Gopros will be fine, you're not moving around a lot or trying to shoot movie quality footage and worst to worst you can resell them easily. People would be watching for the same reason they watch model painters, it's neat background noise you can interact with occasionally. Also you can use intelligently placed shop lights to tidy up the lighting if the fluro is too blue.
Is there pros and cons to using either streaming site? The plan is to have chat hooked up to my surround sound and they can send the chats through there, so I can kill time while interacting ya know?
I really appreciate the help!
Ducks are cool though
Aye, servicing these lame shit boxes for dealerships has brought in a little under 40 grand these past 2 months. Someone will watch it lmao
I would watch it
Do it on some normie platform like twitch and also upload to youtube "How to change the filter on X car" guides. You'll make some extra money too
>Do it on some normie platform like twitch and also upload to youtube "How to change the filter on X car" guides. You'll make some extra money too
Also this, free ad revenue with just a little editing.
Even tho it isn’t gaming, do you think it would look silly with like a banner around the video for the stream? I’ve only watched a few irl streamers
I wouldn't overthink it 2bh
The biggest craft streamer is that polynesian guy who just turns the camera on his phone and carves shid with no bells or whistles
True true
It’s just been pretty hectic opening up, and now trying to figure this stuff out lol
All the more reason to keep it stupid simple
I'd worry more about presence on camera than all the fancy pro streamer stuff. The latter is always something you can add after you get a name for yourself whereas the if you don't have the former you'll never get anywhere
True, ok. I appreciate the feed back!
I think I’m gonna go pick up a GoPro tomorrow and see if I can get this stuff set up. Keep an eye out man haha, I’m used car tech so there’s going to videos on just about everything haha
Good luck to you, don't be discouraged if it takes a while to gather regular viewers, it seems like it's often a slow roll on the first dozen but once more people start watching it gets higher on the list and lurkers feel 'safer'. There's definitely a niche for wrenchers on twitch somewhere, judging by the other IRL streams. It might also be considered sim-racing adjacent so some people might trickle over from there.
You could look at dashducks and cnotbusch to get an idea of how some other chill streams have set their stuff up, but as
said best to just figure out your camera presence as it's better to be a diamond in the rough than chrome polished dog shit.
i'd go with
honestly.
Just do your thing. A couple of years ago all streamers and youtubers got into their head that you need to be hyper and loud and always talking. It sort of created a void for more laid back streams. If you watch vids of those chill and straight to the point vids you'll see a bunch of comments praising that.
Yeah that is true, I just enjoy doing my work, and honestly just want these people to tag along.
Also nice that everything I do will be recorded haha
OBS is free and relatively easy to set up shit like this. Personally I think banners are corny but a logo might be good advertisement. Be aware that you are also opening yourself up to swatting, pizza deliveries, and other moronic internet pranks.
>internet pranks
oh right, that too. Keep your thick skin on and if it ever becomes a worry maybe let your local PD know that you're streaming and that this might happen (unlikely unless you have enough of a following to be 'prank-worthy' so to speak).
Well, keep in eye out in the near future my guy!
Am I able to just take the stream and cut a section out for a video?
Sorry captcha is kicking my ass lmao
>Am I able to just take the stream and cut a section out for a video?
you mean clipping part of the broadcast for the youtube videos? I believe you can. No idea on the specifics since I've never streamed.
what exactly do you mean by a banner around the video?
The ones that I’ve seen it’s just like around the edges of the screen has like their channel name or their subs and shit?
Tell that to Louis Rossman
You hiring? ASE certified master tech.
You got an L1?
Yeah. EPA section 608 and 609 certified as well. Specialize in drivability and electrical.
hire a female mechanic you'll make bank just from the incels alone
Oop, don’t know how the wife would feel about that lmao, maybe when I get the next shop haha, this is just getting the foot in the door
just have your wife LARP as a mechanic.
Op can you sell me a car for free? I will watch your YouTube videos and livestreams when I can 🙂
Would genuinely watch your streams while also at work working on cars. Always wanted to stream mechanic work it sounds like fun and easy content.
I'd legitimately watch your streams dude.
Just say funny shit like
>oh yeah this [insert car] is pretty reliable, you can beat on it like a 1950s housewife and she'd have no other choice but to stay loyal to you.
Surely you could use your phone for some of the filming, I've seen plenty of youtubers substitute their phones in as extra cameras and I know there's all sorts of mounts you can get.
I made a mount for my phone in my car and it works great.

Look at what Rainmain Ray uses in his auto repair channel. His videos are great. He lists the camera/audio gear he uses. He tries to provide a POV of the repairs in real time too.
