Why does DA seethe over this so much? I think it’s great as a daily driver replacement. I think a lot of gays here think people see it as a replacement for trucks, but when you look at it as a replacement for daily driver sedans, it’s fantastic.

I agree it’s the perfect daily when equipped with the hybrid engine.
It’s the people that pretend they have a 4x4 with the shitty AWD that ruin it.
True. No reason to get the turbo over a ranger. Similar mileage and price tag since the turbo costs a good few thousand more than the hybrid, and the ranger is more capable.
>perfect daily
nah. it will be when there's a PHEV version.
This is a partial hybrid electric
Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
I always think how good a PHEV version (of any car) would be, but then I start to think of all the drawbacks it would have over a full BEV like most likely pitiful electric range with a tiny battery (you want 50 miles? Okay, here's 25 lol), slow acceleration, way more complexity, and to top it all off it's not like you're saving any money buying a PHEV over a BEV. The Toyota Rav4 Prime is just as expensive as all the BEV competition. I'd just say frick it and buy a BEV.
PHEV has the major advantage of being able to do the average daily commute work and back on pure electric power while still retaining an ICE engine for longer drives. It’s the perfect middle ground for most people. I would buy an electric vehicle if I could get one with 400miles of range for about $35k but that doesn’t exist and I don’t really want to fully invest in a fully electric car while ranges are still low and much better battery tech is already on the horizon. I would be able to do 80% of my driving on pure electric power if I had a PHEV with a 40 mile range. I would probably only need to fill the tank once every few months unless I’m heading up north to my cabin where an electric vehicle doesn’t have the range to get too. If ford can release an AWD PHEV maverick and keep the price sub $40k they will sell them as fast as they can make the.
The use case for a PHEV over a BEV is so slim for the average person. The only time a PHEV is better than a BEV is for long trips and even then there's some nuance to that. One could make the argument that a BEV is better for the occasional road trip since using fast charging stations is still cheaper than gas. The only use case I can think where a PHEV would be a clear winner over a BEV is if you also needed to tow when going on those long trips as towing range on a BEV is still unacceptably low, imo, and charging station placement isn't yet optimized for towing. If you fit that niche then a PHEV might be for you. I just don't think they're necessary for most people.
>The use case for a PHEV over a BEV is so slim for the average person
I stopped reading, you’re an idiot.
The average person drives something like 40 miles a day. Unless someone is driving hundreds of miles on a regular basis (which most people don't), a BEV will work just fine and will be superior than a PHEV in nearly every way.
The Maverick seething is about to quadruple in intensity.
CVT
V
T
Hybrid CVT is not anything like a regular gas belt/chain moron CVT
its basically a single speed transmission that uses two electric motors to vary the amount of power sent to the wheels
>8 speed transverse planetary torque converter transmission
It's a good for city people and suburbs. Carrys things like chairs, furniture, sofas, and people just fine and it's economic. I personally prefer that ranger but I see the appeal. It's like the new version of the mini van
>It's like the new version of the mini van
This is how I see it. Maverick for daily life in town. Half ton for when I need to tow or haul something too heavy for the Mav.
Good post. It's a budget truck that's designed to be a daily driver for bi-weekly trips to Lowes. It's obviously not meant to be a serious off roader, hauler, or tradesmans truck
This truck will be a pile of shit in 5 years, just like every other Ford product. Short term gain for long term losses is nog level of thinking
Good, maybe that’ll motivate Toyota to make a similar sized truck then but with actual build quality.
>MSRP - $42,593
>Out the door cost - $59,,271
>maybe that’ll motivate Toyota to make a similar sized truck
Lightning trucks would be like toyota trucks if they were in the American rust belt. Put either unibody frame on the lift and it may crumple (metal tear) due to cascade failure of seam welds due corrosion.
I expect Maverick trucks to look like Picrel after a number of years of salty roads.
My 18,19 and 35 year old Fords disagree
Mine are ancient too but I carefully avoided some models (and all their cars though Panther platforms at least make good truck engine donors).
Skipped everything between my dentsides and the 1997-2003 F150 because rust and electrical issues were common even outside the rust belt and life is good. Some of the old Rangers were decent but I'll give Maverick five or so years like I do everything else. I'd be insane to buy one since the price will keep my existing fleet on the road for a very long time. Spending 20whatever grand plus state taxes and insurance is fine for someone who doesn't wrench and has no current truck so they should do that.
I don’t like anything that’s marketed to Urbanites
Because it's a truck and not a new gen for the Mondeo/Fusion, the cars for the good christian family man
I'd like to get one I just wish it was body on frame. I have a panther platform car and I'm used to driving over curbs and stuff sometimes when I get bored/frustrated. My understanding is that doing that with unibody chassis cars can lead to permanent damage. I just worry can you beat the shit out of the Maverick like you can with most trucks?
Unibody Fords were done before and didn't suit beating (they were pretty tho and are collectible today). I prefer trucks I can swap bodies on since I do fun stuff like put F100 cabs on F250/350 chassis and build trucks from multiple donors. Unibody anything is really easy to total (I have a frame machine) beyond it worth fricking with and I pity da fools in the Rust Belt.
I dunno, I like it. Vehicles are too fricking big these days, I liked the minitruck days. I'd like to lower one, personally, not to the ground, just a modest drop like this.
>I liked the minitruck days
Same. All these small and mid-size pick ups just get bigger every year
also, does anyone know if Mavericks are Flex Fuel Vehicles? Can I run E-85 in a Maverick if I'm in a pinch?
I'll be honest, I try to buy e85 vehicles when possible because I think they'd fare better running e100. I figure if there's ever a true shit hit the fan scenario, being able to run your car on pure grain alcohol would be very important
I went to look in the Brazilian site, since if it was flex, it would show up there, but it shows as gas only so I'd say no
gay truck
I'm spicing this thread
More like spic’ing you disgusting beaner
>I think it’s great as a daily driver replacement
So is a fricking half ton. Stop telling people what they "need".
I don’t think anyone disagrees with that, but with government cafe bullshit the average kid graduating high school simply cannot afford a new full-size. It’s unfortunate we live in this world but I’m glad there’s at least an option
> the average kid graduating high school simply cannot afford a new full-size
What the frick makes you think they can afford a $30k Maverick when they can't afford a $35k half ton?
Every time you put a half ton in drive you're "using it". Nobody buys a half ton to use it's features. Nobody is buying the FWD's and the AWD gets 25mpg.
Honestly a decent maverick is about $23k, and just about anyone that’s not going to uni today and isn’t criminally moronic is jumping into at least a $20/hr apprenticeship
>Every time you put a half ton in drive you're "using it"
oh shut the frick up with these platitudes. You have all this shit you wrote and didn't say anything
>no one is buying FWD
yea they are, its 5k cheaper than the AWD version and gets way better mpg.
People buy trucks because they're one of the last fricking RWD based vehicles available. How about you shut the frick up with the FWD bullshit until you can actually walk onto a lot and buy one?
Man I thought the Mazda shills here were cancerous but holy frick.
>People buy trucks because they're one of the last fricking RWD based vehicles available
no they frickin don't. Many normies don't know what RWD means.
I think you need to go and talk to some real truck owners. Ask any normie why they drive a half ton or bigger and 99% of the time it's going to be "I like the way it drives".
Ram is selling half tons for $10k off the MSRP and have plenty on their lots. Same with GM. Why do you think the Maverick would be immune to dealer markup?
>I think you need to go and talk to some real truck owners. Ask any normie why they drive a half ton or bigger and 99% of the time it's going to be "I like the way it drives".
Real truck owners are normies who might tow a fricking jetski to the lake twice a year with their F150, meanwhile its a daily driver to work and never actually sees any "work"
They'll say shit like "I like the way it drives" and you wanna be reductive about that "IT MUST MEAN ITS RWD" in reality they can't tell the fricking difference, they just want a truck because all their friends have trucks and they sit up high and the trucks are incredibly well equipped with comfy chairs. 99% of people aren't using their truck for work at all.
How many people are using their sports car on a track or in a spirited manor? When was the last time your dick entered a vegana? Why have either? Why does a truck HAVE to be used for work?
>How many people are using their sports car on a track or in a spirited manor?
probably the same ratio of people who use their trucks for actual truck capable things.
>Why does a truck HAVE to be used for work?
No one brought up this stupid paradigm. Pretending people aren't buying the Maverick FWD hybrid because its not a "real truck" like the f150 because "its RWD" is a bunch of made up shit.
>probably the same ratio of people who use their trucks for actual truck capable things.
A truck is still extreemely practical even if you never use it for truck things. A sports car is the exact opposite and pretty pointless.
Look up the sales numbers for any vehicle available with both FWD and AWD. Nobody is buying FWD's.
2/3s of maverick sales are hybrid
hybrid is fwd only right now for 2022
I bought a hybrid maverick XL for 21,800 dollars
You bought a vehicle in 2022 with no cruise control. You're a fricking moron.
Can your Civic take a washing machine home? Can you get to the good camping or hiking spots with your Civic? Sedans and mutated hatchbacks are fricking useless.
>Like basically every other car on the market, the base model is going to outsell the higher end trims
Where the shit do you live? You know the average selling price of a truck of a truck in North America is over $50k right? Do you think those are base models? Look at RAV4's for an example. The vast majority are AWD and mostly Limited's or fairly loaded mid specs. I get a sneaking suspicion you live in a shithole and you're surrounded by Mexicans. Things are a little different in the developed world.
>Can your Civic take a washing machine home?
my odyssey can do that.
>can you get to camping grounds or hiking spots with your civic?
yes because the adirondacks have fully paved areas and dirt trails to get to stuff its not exactly hard.
Minivans cost as much as a half ton and get the same mpg's as a half ton. They also sit 5'' off the ground. Seems like a pretty pointless vehicle to me but whatever.
How about you look out your bus window or walk your fat ass onto a dealership lot??? how many base models do you see? Even most fleets run XLT's or the competitors equivalent because they look better and sell better at the auctions.
A Micra is not a Civic and that was probably a euro sized washer.
Congrats. It also uses more fuel than a 6k lb truck. Good buy!
>Congrats. It also uses more fuel than a 6k lb truck. Good buy!
my forester gets 26-32
So it uses as much fuel as a 6k lb truck. What's it's mpg with the engine replacement factored in?
Well in his defense they are pretty comparable these days. Subaru is not in a good state right now.
It's the other way around moron. Why are you so out of touch with reality?
You want to keep a modern Ford for 20 years? Good fricking luck lmao.
>You want to keep a modern Ford for 20 years? Good fricking luck lmao.
My 05 Five Hundred and 04 Explorer are doing just fine. No reason to believe my 18 Edge or 21 Ranger will be worse.
Riiight.
Nice! Post your truck if you got a pic, I love my Ranger, FX4 XLT, was thinking about getting that Ford performance tune soon
Lariat with tech package but not B&O or remote start on fob. I heard the B&O was junk and not worth it and I I can still remote start from my phone which I've done one time when it was -20F.
Yah that remote start through the app is pretty nice to get the heater going when the cold comes, nice Ranger
The app remote start is nice when everyone else is standing at the closest window to the parking lot with their fobs in their mouth trying to get that last bit of range and see their lights light to know it got started while I'm in my office clear across the building and app says confirmed start.
>empty, sterile, suburban garage without a single power tool or hint of DIY ability
what do truck owners mean by this?
The car seat and spotless paint should tell you the rest of the story
>So it uses as much fuel as a 6k lb truck.
what truck gets 26 let alone 32?
A new F-150 or a GM 5.3 with a 8/10 speed on flat ground with no headwind. Modern trucks are fairly aerodynamic and the the cheapest Ram 1500 has active shutters in the grille. The 8 or 10 speed keeps the rpms and engine load down.
>what truck gets 32
How much do you honestly think an F150 weighs?
>How much do you honestly think an F150 weighs?
About 3.84 inflation-adjusted Americans.
you're like that moron who shills a base model f150's in WRX threads.
As someone who owned a wrx I was disappointed. Shit mpg, manual gearbox isnt right for the engine. If you get a subawu, get the crossdrek sport, its a far more practical car that you can take on less than perfect pavement, and aside from 70+ mph runs, its more responsive and gets better mpg while hauling more.
If you do like to haul ass, some 2wd sports car is better, cheaper and more fun. The awd on the wrx is pointless cause it has no ground clearence and it will get stuck on snowy mountain drives
>How about you look out your bus window or walk your fat ass onto a dealership lot??? how many base models do you see? Even most fleets run XLT's or the competitors equivalent because they look better and sell better at the auctions.
the reason there are no base models at the dealer is because people bought them all and only the higher trims are left stupid ass.
>you did that in a even smaller car?
>t-that doesn't count, and I bet your washing machine is small too
Why are truckgays so moronic?
>Minivans cost half as much as a half ton for similar trim and spec
fix'd
No MSRP crap, truggs get marked up like crazy while minivans will still depreciate in this clown world market.
source on how base models don't outsell upper trims?
>Can your Civic take a washing machine home?
Yes, I took a washing machine home in a Nissan Micra
Can you get to the good camping or hiking spots with your Civic?
Yes, the only places that I couldn't reach with my FWD hatchback were the places your only option is on foot, you could do that if you weren't a shit driver
> Sedans and mutated hatchbacks are fricking useless.
Sedans are useless? Blasphemy!
>Can your Civic take a washing machine home? Can you get to the good camping or hiking spots with your Civic? Sedans and mutated hatchbacks are fricking useless.
my forester does all that shit effortlessly.
>You bought a vehicle in 2022 with no cruise control. You're a fricking moron.
I owned a 94 Ranger for 20 years. No cruise. I have vehicles with CC and use it often, but I never drove that truck and said "FRICK I NEED CRUISE. THIS TRUCK IS FINE BUT NO CRUISE JUST FRICKING SUCKS!"
CC is a fricking non-issue.
>A truck is still extreemely practical even if you never use it for truck things.
oh yea so is my civic.
>a sports car is the exact opposite
yea a sports car is the opposite. Having ultra stiff suspension is the opposite of what you want in a comfy daily which is why modern corvettes and mustangs come so well kitted with ultra plush leather and shit.
>Look up the sales numbers for any vehicle available with both FWD and AWD. Nobody is buying FWD's.
Like basically every other car on the market, the base model is going to outsell the higher end trims. The maverick isn't any different and you're just making shit up as the justification for these made up sales figures you can't even source.
>you can actually walk onto a lot and buy one?
ok boomer. Every frickin dealer is still charging way over MSRP for shit. I'd rather order a truck, get exactly what I want in the color I want and NOT pay the absolutely fricked dealer markup scam.
>the average kid graduating high school
Doesn't need a truck. It needs a job not luxuries and the worthy will wrench and ride no matter what.
>truck
>luxuries
Wat
Can you get a more basic vehicle well suited for the average high school grad?
>half ton
>never actually use any of the features of said half ton
>20mpg at the very best.
>maverick
>can't really tow or have much payload but does all the other truck things I need
>also 40mpg city/highway
>So is a fricking half ton. Stop telling people what they "need".
For the same price as a loaded Maverick you can get a Xcab 4wd 1/2 ton with steelies and rubber floors. Nobody but Mexican landscapers wants to drive that shit.
Yeah no truck pricing doesn't work like that. Manufacturers would never frick up their bread and butter half ton sales like that. Half tons always have really good lease deals. The dealers here are offering Lariat F-150's here for $50/mo more than a Lariat Mav.
>really good lease deals
Yeah, I'm not making 3 years of payments so I can just give it back at the end. Leasing is stupid unless you buy a new car every 3 years. I keep my shit 20+.
>Xcab 4wd 1/2 ton with steelies and rubber floors.
What’s wrong with that config? Only other must have I can think of is cruise control.
So get a Maverick XL and save yourself $10k
>no 4x4
>no cruise
Are you tarded?
I bought a 4x4 Ranger last year. Don't know why never use it. I got by for 20 years with an RWD 94 with snow tires.
I would wager that most of the truck / SUV owners I know have never even used 4x4. Maybe once a year while going to the same lake their neighbor takes their stock HRV to. My sister has a 4Runner, and she isn't even slightly curious about what the extra shifter does. Her transfer case has LITERALLY never been used. People like her are a larger driver demographic than we'd like to admit. Hardly anyone is crawling around on trails scratching their $60,000 pavement boss.
The only place 4x4 is desirable is when you're buying a 10-15 year old shit kicked trail toy. I have an '06 Ranger, and it's fun as frick off road. But I would never take a new one down those trails. It would be pinstriped to hell before the first obstacle, and all the safety sensors would be having an autistic conniption fit. Better off in an old beater that you don't mind slamming into rocks and stumps and fixing with a rattle can.
The Maverick is a perfect truck for modern owners, but they're too fragile to admit it.
You know this thing called winter exists right? Most people with 4x4 use it even if they don't know what it is because most modern transfer cases default to the 4x4 auto setting which kicks it into 4hi when excessive wheelslip is detected. Once you've driven a 4x4 or AWD vehicle in the winter it's hard to go back to a FWD or RWD. Most people never do. Yes both have the same tires...
I live on a literal ski hill in a resort town. Yes, I know about winter, and I disagree with you. I stay in 2wd most of the winter because our plows do a great job and I have studded tires. Sometimes I have to shift into 4x4 to get in and out of my shitty alleyway that doesn't get salted, or if I want to go somewhere remote that doesn't get cleared often. But it's not a big deal and most people do fine with FWD and winter tires. Maybe if your town's infrastructure is bad, 4x4 matters more.
My wife's Subaru is more fun to drive in the winter than my truck, anyway. No axle hop when turning on and off of mixed surfaces onto dry pavement in parking lots and shit. I won't comment on 4auto systems because I have no experience with it.
>a Xcab 4wd 1/2 ton with steelies and rubber floors.
this should be the only configuration people are legally allowed to buy, you either need a truck or you can frick off
People hating on it are just being autistic and willfully disregarding the absolutely unbeatable utility you get for the money.
>muh body on frame
>muh transfer case
They are missing the point. This replaces your Civic, not your F150
>They are missing the point. This replaces your Civic, not your F150
I think that points been made in every mav thread in existence, the only people claiming otherwise are those that are trolling support for the mav
People who daily drive trucks and don't use them for work should be shot
It's because most people on DA are too poor to own a decent car and can only afford used cars from the Early 2000s or older
DA seethes over everything that the layman enjoys. there are a ton of mavericks down here in the southeast and surprisingly, i often see them carrying lots of cargo in the bed
I drove one a month ago. Here were my thoughts...
Drives awesome, speeds up quick, stops quick and it's a very smooth ride. Ford did a great job with the interior, it's so classy and sporty, the leather feels great. Then there are the looks, it's sporty and fresh in person. That's where the positives stop. The back seats are just like the back seats of a Mustang, so small that it's really just a last resort. You wouldn't want to be back there for more than like a 20 minute ride. I have a 5 year old, and the thought of her being pinned back there on the way to school didn't seem appealing. Also like others have said the bed in the back looks and feels about half the size of a regular bed.
Then there's the big issue. It's a Ford. I drove a Ford for 10 years. It leaked water when it rained, they used cheap spark plugs that snapped in two during a tune-up, and once I was parking on a hill and when I went to pull the e-brake, the cable snapped. Not one of these issues did Ford cover under warranty. On the bad spark plugs Ford created their own removal tool for their dealers to use but did not compensate the Ford owners. Ford does not car at all about their customers, and it's worse than ever. One of my friends bought a 2015 Explorer and at 75k miles the transmission died. Another friend of mine has a 2019 Ford Ranger, he has 30k miles and he said the transmission is already doing weird things during shifting.
I went with the Honda Ridgeline and that was the right call.
Ridgeline is the right call for the average man. Smooth riding, comfortable truck. The Maverick beats it on efficiency and price and that's more important for a poorgay like me. There's no reason for a man to drive a modern commuter car with the maverick out that's similarly equipped unless you really hate Fords.
Wish you could find them though. I've only seen one in the real world, last week.
>not an updated 70s maverick
>became a truck
>4 doors not 2
>tiny short bed
>can’t tow a car
Lots of reasons
>buys a 25k plus tip maverick truck
>gets mogged by a 1000$ grand marquis with a trailer hitch
sorry fren.
>a wild poor appears!
test
>Makes a UTE
>Calls it a Truck
Why are mutts like this?
>Why are mutts like this?
Advertising/Marketing mutts strive to degrade the meaning of anything into a relativist blank slate. Americans are deeply infatuated with the idea with owning a truck, so making a car-based ute and calling it a truck will make it print more money than the Federal Reserve.
They should be shot for these transgressions, as these are the same tactics that have made the natural ways of life into a set of dirty, wrongthink words.
You put "ies" on the end of everything and still use DSL. You don't get to tell others what things are called.
Just get a late model frontier
